Adeline Jean Romas (nee Zabowski), 90, of Winnipeg entered into God's kingdom on January 13, 2024. She was born July 9, 1933, to Mike and Katie Zabowski.
Adeline, the most loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, is survived by her husband Peter, daughter Debbie and son-in-law Craig Kirton, son Randy and daughter-in-law Peggy Romas, daughter Brenda Romas, grandchildren, Joel, Todd (Stacy), Ryan (Danielle), Kelly and Laura (David) and great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Liam, Aubrey and Josephine.
She was predeceased by her parents, sister Eleanor Hrynkiw as well as her many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Adeline grew up on the family farm in the Pine Ridge area of Manitoba and after graduating Grade 10 moved to the big city of Winnipeg to start life on her own at the tender age of 16.
She met Peter at a school picnic and dated for three years before getting married in 1952. They shared an incredible 72 year marriage together.
Adeline worked for five years before quitting to focus her efforts on raising three kids and making a warm, beautiful home life for her family and friends.
As one of the first of each of their families to establish residence in Winnipeg, out her abundant love for others, Adeline hosted numerous family members to live at their house for periods of time when they also moved in off the farms to transition to city life.
Once the kids were old enough, yearly family vacations transitioned into travel for Peter and Adeline to many warm destinations with family and friends. Adeline though especially liked her more local camping trips with family where she was known for bringing out foil wrapped garlic sausage late at night to be cooked over the open fire for late night snacks along with her home made pickles and KUBs rye bread.
Adeline loved to host large family dinners where at Christmas time and special occasions, she was well known for working a week ahead to prepare a meal for 30 to 40 family and guests. She was proud of the fact that she passed her knowledge of making various ethnic dishes to her children and grandchildren and knowing that her family meal traditions would be kept alive for future generations.
More recent years saw Adeline slow down a bit and move into Concordia Village where she made many new friends, reconnected with old ones and she loved her Bingo nights.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Concordia Village "Building 2" at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024, with lunch after. To access the service room, come in the main doors at 1115 Molson Street and follow the signage. Parking on site for visitors is somewhat limited, so if you are not early enough to get a spot, you might have to park off site and walk a ways.
Adeline's last days were filled with the compassion and excellent care she received at the Riverview Health Centre and the family would like to recognize the staff at that facility for the care they provided in her last days. Staff commented that they became very fond of her. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation.

Our deepest condolences to Brenda and family. We met your parents at Holy Eucharist Parish 18 years ago during the time I was undergoing Chemo treatments. We found great comfort in sharing a bench with them. Always caring and compassionate. Your Mom could always tell when I cold and would hold my hands to warm me. May she rest peacefully knowing she made a difference in our lives when we most needed the support. Frank & Cynthia Lischynski. - Posted by: Cynthia Lischynski (Friend) on: Jan 20, 2024
