Peacefully, but unexpectedly with Gertrude at his side, Steve passed away at St. Boniface Hospital.
Steve is lovingly remembered by his partner Gertrude Vogl; children, Anita (Brent) and Ralph (Patty); grandchildren, Brendan, Karli (Andrew), Mackenzie, Amber (Nick), and Michael (Jordyn); and great-granddaughter Clarke. He is also survived by Gertrude’s family, his sister Anni (Josef) in Germany, sisters-in-law, Mary (Grant) and Linda (Wayne), as well as many nieces and nephews. Steve was predeceased by wives, Christine (1986) and Hildegard (2002), as well as parents and siblings in Germany.
Steve was born in Germany and became a journeyman “Maurergeselle” (bricklayer). Arriving in Canada in 1954 with a friend, Steve planned on working and travelling for a year. Those plans changed when he and Chris met, were married, and started their family.
Steve was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, many of the church’s clubs, and The Kolping Society. He looked forward to spending time with his family and friends.
