Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL (MIKE) CHAMBERS
After a long, well-lived life, Mike Chambers died On February 8, 2024, at almost 98 years old. Born on March 20, 1926 in Arborg, MB to parents Margaret and William Chambers, Mike was a much beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen (Myhal), and daughter Janice Berens. Left to be comforted with their memories are son Dennis (Bonnie) of Steinbach, MB, daughter Dayle (Mark) of Saint Andrews, NB, son-in-law, Ken Berens of Winnipeg, grandchildren Tyson, Spencer, Harley, London and Layne, and great-grandchildren Aidan and Abby. Mike also leaves behind his sister, Olive (Ed) Toker and brother, Bill (Helen) Chambers.
Mike was born to Ukrainian and first-generation Ukrainian parents, learning first-hand the value of family, hard work and the soil of a good farmstead. While he kept and worked the farm well into his retirement years, he also had a career as a transit bus driver in the city of Winnipeg for more than 25 years. He and Helen raised their three children in Winnipeg, spending their weekends and holidays at the farm.
Mike had a great sense of humour. He loved a joke, whether he was telling one or laughing at one. He was an avid curler; traveling with the transit league and his best pals to bonspiels across Canada. He was a dedicated Jets and Bomber fan, a devoted friend and a defender of animals. In his later years he made forays to local casinos, played a mean game of dominos, and was a faithful watcher of Question Period (or as he called it, his soap opera).
The family would like to thank the staff on Tower 5 at Winnipeg's Deer Lodge Centre for the exceptional care they provided Mike, as well as the Department of Veteran Affairs for their unstinting support.
There will be a private interment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, The Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
