Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORRAINE CELESTE HART
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Hart. She was 91 years old.
Lorraine was a vibrant, fun-loving, fiercely independent woman. In many ways, she was “liberated” far before her time. Sometimes stubborn, always headstrong, she had a tremendous capacity to love and laugh.
Left to cherish her memory are four children, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many in-laws, relatives, neighbours and friends - too many to name.
Lorraine Labelle was born in 1932 to parents Lawrence and Sybil in Thunder Bay (Fort William), the older of two daughters. Her younger sister, Arlene, was a close friend through much of her life. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1945. In 1953 she married Charlie Hart, who was a high school sweetheart. By 1957 she had four children – Lynda, Jim, Kathy, Ken. Two sets of twins. Having four children under three years old was a challenge. Ditto four teenagers. She ran a tight ship. And all survived. Healthy and happy.
Lorraine was passionate about maintaining an orderly household. Cleanliness was a kind of religion. She had an eye for fashion, loved to dance, had a major penchant for gardening, and an amazing memory for detail. Later in life she took up painting (especially watercolour), clay work, and downhill skiing. She loved nature and camping. Unexpectedly, she morphed from being a cat-lover. And became a dog-lover. One dog after another was a constant companion.
She wasn’t perfect… who is? Alas, she was sometimes dishonest when declaring monies spent on shopping trips to Grand Forks. She tended to believe in conspiracy theories. Later in life, various joints would give way. Eventually she would become partly bionic.
Life took a major turn in 2016, after Charlie passed away. Life become smaller, and more exclusive. But always, full of energy.
They say we are all one of a kind. Lorraine, more so.
And thank God, for that.
In keeping with her wishes, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
