I had the pleasure of meeting your Mom & Dad when they first moved into the Shaftesbury. I facilitated weekly groups -movie & chat, and continuing life. Your father’s contributions ranged from sarcastic comments to deep insights to backhanded compliments. How he loved Bella was awesome to witness. Sometimes when he was quiet, he made paper sailboats. I just found one in a drawer I was cleaning out now. I’m going to keep it and my fond memories of him. Ruth BZ Thomson. - Posted by: Ruth BZ Thomson (Group leader) on: Mar 12, 2024

I was very sad to hear of Oscar’s passing, though not at all surprised to learn that he lived to 100 years. My fondest memories are of Oscar and his family who sat behind our family at Shaarey Zedek. My father Jack Kay (passed 1999) always spoke highly of Oscar and I remember him as a kind, warm and friendly individual. A few years ago, when I visited my mother who was also residing at Shaftesbury Park at the time, I met Oscar in the elevator lobby where he was cradling the latest novel. It took him a few minutes but after reference to my parents, Oscar remembered me and we had a brief chat. A true mensch. May you find comfort in all your happy memories. To the family. I have thought of your father often over the years, largely due to his remarkable commitment to your mother, as her care needs increased. He was the perfect example of unselfish love and commitment. - Posted by: Vivian Bicknell-Lynne (Former ED of SPRR) on: Mar 02, 2024
