JEAN ISABEL FORSYTH

Mom passed away on February 22, 2024 (her dad’s birthday) after a day where she was surrounded by love from family. Family was most important to Mom and during her brief hospital stay, she thoroughly enjoyed our visits and the opportunity to spend time with her great-grandchildren, Addison and Gavin.

Born Jean Isabel Sutherland, Mom married her best friend and the love of her life, Don Forsyth, and they were married for over 70 years! They grew up across the street from each other and, together, they showed our family how to support each other and how to work together. Mom had an incredible ability for crafts and could sew, knit, crochet, petit point, needlepoint, embroider, cross-stitch, and type over 100 words a minute. Her baking was the hit of our family get-togethers, and she loved music and reading. She entertained her grandchildren with her impressive vocabulary and her instruction to “sound it out” for an unfamiliar word. Mom worked at Five Roses Flour, raised four kids, and then went back to the workforce and taught shorthand at Success Business College.

Mom was predeceased by her son Craig, and in her last days, she was so looking forward to seeing Craig again. She is survived by her husband Don and her children, Arlene (Jim), Bruce (Connie) and Sandra (David), as well as the grandchildren she loved so much: Katie, Danny, Lexi, Jason, Jessica, Brady, Melissa, Erin and Cameron. We were lucky to have this gentle, kind, and loving woman with such a beautiful and welcoming smile in our lives.

A private family celebration will take place in the spring.

Donations in Mom’s memory can be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation Canada.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • There are friends you make as you go through life. And when you’re young when friendships are made and developed, you get to know the other family members of your friend as well. Don & Jean were always inviting to me when I would go over to Bruce’s playing ping pong in the basement or to pick him up. I remember Jean always busy in the kitchen. She was a kind, gentle and sweet little lady. Although I hadn’t seen Jean in quite some time now, I will always remember those visits. My deepest condolences to the family especially Don, Arlene, Sandra and my longtime friend Bruce. Cherish the memories and celebrate a life long and well lived. - Posted by: Ron Hahlweg (Family friend ) on: Mar 02, 2024

  • Dear Don, We are so sorry to read of Jean’s passing. We received an email with the sad news from Pam Caswill. Pam went to school with your daughter and remembered you and Jean attended our wedding. Dave and I are currently in Myrtle Beach enjoying some golf. We are thinking of you during this difficult time. - Posted by: Dave Morison and Brenda Parrott (Friends) on: Mar 02, 2024
