Surrounded by family, Lawrence Van Caeseele, beloved husband, father, son, and grandfather, passed peacefully on February 22. His warmth, integrity and kindness will be dearly missed.
He leaves his wife Corliss; children, Paul and Rachel (Todd); and grandchildren, Luke, Mark and Eric, and Violet and Jasper; sisters, Mildred (Jim) and Marge (Donald). Many nieces and nephews, in-laws, and friends also mourn his passing.
Lawrence was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan on the family farm. He joined the RCAF in 1957. He entered the University of Manitoba and completed his PhD in microbiology, becoming a Professor in the Department of Botany, retiring in 2001. His students remember his gift for teaching complex concepts with clarity and simplicity.
Lawrence swam, ran, skied, golfed and played hockey. He canvassed for charities, and built houses for the poor. He coached his son’s hockey team, and judged science fairs. He enjoyed poetry and was an avid reader. His faith was a source of strength, and he was a devoted member of his church.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m., St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford Street, Winnipeg.

Dear Corliss and Family; I was both shocked and saddened when I read about Larry's passing in the Winnipeg Free Press Passages on Saturday March 2, 2024. My deepest condolences to you and your family, Corliss. Please find peace and comfort once again in the difficult days, weeks and months ahead (without Larry's physical earthly presence) but in the incredible memories you must have as a family for so many precious years. Larry was a kind-hearted person, well-liked and respected by students and colleagues alike.
