Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGABRIEL NIKOLA MURUVE
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Gabriel Muruve at the age of 93. Dr. Muruve died peacefully in his home surrounded by family and with the love of his life Noella at his side.
Dr. Muruve was the first of his family to immigrate to Canada in 1957 to complete his training in Pediatrics at McGill University in Montreal. After arriving to Canada, he married Noella in 1962, and the young couple inspired a wave of family members to follow in their footsteps. A Chief Resident job at the Children’s Hospital led them to Winnipeg where they settled and raised their family.
Dr. Muruve was a very respected and compassionate person and physician. Dr. Muruve was one of the first partners at the Manitoba Clinic where he practiced Pediatric Medicine for more than 50 years. He touched thousands of lives during his career, helping many children and families in Manitoba. His patients loved him and appreciated his commonsense approach to medicine as well as his sharp clinical acumen.
Dr. Muruve had a healthy life filled with family, friends, travel, and the outdoors. He had a tremendous sense of humour and his stories and experiences were legendary. His final words were “I have no regrets. I have done all that I wanted in life.”.
Dr. Muruve is survived by Noella; his three sons, Nicolas (Carolyn George), Daniel (Suzanne Gaultier), Richard, and his eight grandchildren. He will be truly missed but his legacy will live on in his family and all those he mentored and cared for during his lifetime.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bruce Martin for his care and compassion during Dr. Muruve’s last few months.
The family will be holding a private celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Harvest Manitoba.

Dr. Muruve was my Dr. when I was little and he later became my son's pediatrician. I remember getting a jelly bean from behind the curtain in his room after each visit. Such a kind and caring man he will be missed dearly. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Kimberly Clements (Former patient) on: Aug 24, 2025

I was so sad to hear about Dr Muruve’s passing. I was in Mexico with friends Don & Laurie (I worked for Dr. Muruve and she worked for Dr .Taylor) when we heard. I actually got a text from the wonderful person that took my place when I left the clinic. Tracy Moo ❤️. She adored him too. He was an amazing man, loved by all. My heart goes out to Noella and the boys. It’s been many years since I had seen him but whenever I was the clinic I would go visit him. Rest in paradise Groovy Muruve , you are definitely missed. Dr. Muruve was my brothers' and my first doctor back in the 60s. Of course, as a kid, I hated going, but there was something about Dr. Muruve that just made everything okay. He was a great doctor. Reading all these comments, he touched so many people's lives. May he RIP, an Outstanding Canadian. To his wife, boys, families, and grandkids...He was an inspiration to so many, and my condolences to all of you. Take good care. He was someone I will never forget. - Posted by: Darren Olsen (Patient) on: Mar 09, 2024

Condolences to the Muruve family. He was my 4 childrens doctor from birth to adulthood. In my opinion, the best doctor we ever had for our children. My kids always get so excited when we are going to see him not only for his treat but also his sense of humor. I was just talking about him the other day with my siblings where whenever he sees my daughter, he will call her, how's my baby with extra spare tires. We will all smile including my boys. May the memories carry the family through this difficult time. - Posted by: Elizabeth Reyes (My childrens doctor from birth to adulthood) on: Mar 05, 2024

Our deepest condolences to the Muruve Family. May his memory be eternal. Dr. Muruve was our family pediatrician and we were lucky to know him. As new parents, we would come in sometimes quite nervous and worried for our children. But he would always be so calming, relaxed and tell it like it is. You knew he loved his patients with all the pictures of all the kids including ours on his walls. We loved his stories and he was always so proud of his children. When he would talk, he would have the special sparkle in his eye. - Posted by: Tanya and family (our pediatrician) on: Mar 05, 2024

Condolences to the Muruve family. He was our family pediatrician. I could have not raised 3 children without his medical help and advice. In my opinion, the best doctor we ever had. We are so happy he lived well and at the end he said: “I have no regrets. I have done all that I wanted in life.” Such an inspiration to all of us. May the memories carry the family through this difficult time. - Posted by: Ursula Koop Warkentin (Our pediatrician ) on: Mar 04, 2024

My condolences to the Muruve family. I have never forgotten how kind Dr. Muruve was and his wonderful bedside manner, even when making house calls. It is a rare gift to make a child’s Dr.'s appointment, positive, but he did! Sixty-six years later, I still remember that kindness. - Posted by: Tracy Szumlak (Former patient) on: Mar 04, 2024

...when I began my nursing career at the Childrens Hospital, Dr. Muruve was one of the doctors who cared for those little people on my ward...He was always professional with us nurses and truly heard what we said about his " children"...but he also had a quiet sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye when the day was a good one...when we spoke about him it was always out of the respect we had for him as a doctor but also a genuine, kind man...he will be missed by many...may the precious memories you carry in your hearts always keep him close❣ - Posted by: Wendy Heidrick (Nurse at Childrens for 34 years(retired)) on: Mar 03, 2024

Our Sincere Sympathies to Dr Muruve’s Family, I was a patient of Dr Muruve’s back in 1963 and I remember he made house calls back in the day…he was a great doctor and set the bar so high in his field. When we had our two daughters, he was their doctor and they still talk about their yearly visits and they are in their late 20s. Dr Muruve was very friendly, never rushed you and was so knowledgeable. In my day his treat was jelly beans and my kids received stickers. He touched so many lives and it was a true testament when you entered any of his rooms you couldn’t miss the collage of children and their families that was in a picture frame taking up most of the wall. I second the sentiments that we need more doctors like Dr Muruve. We were grateful to have been in his care growing up. Heaven has a special person… we all have special memories. Our prayers are with you 🙏 - Posted by: Valerie & Family (Patient ) on: Mar 02, 2024

Dr. Muruve was an exceptional doctor and wise counsellor to the parents who entrusted their children to his care. As a mother of 7, I and my husband spent a lot of time sitting in his waiting room and office and receiving advice and occasional scolding from him. He saved the life of one of our sons, for which we could never repay him. God rest the soul of this wonderful man. - Posted by: Darlene Bellinger (Former patient) on: Mar 02, 2024

I was so lucky to have Dr. Muruve as a MD for myself and than later for my own child, he was always so supportive to me. When I had my daughter , I would call with the slightest issue being a first time Mom, etc, and he would say "she will be fine, bring her in to see me", if it was a bit after he was leaving for the day, he had waited till I would get there, no matter the simple issue I would have, his reassurance and caring, relaxed myself and my daughter:) The photos of all the children on the walls, a great memory. To his family, my sincere condolences and Rest in Peace, Dr. Muruve Deborah Scromeda - Posted by: Deborah Scromeda (Patient) on: Mar 02, 2024
