WILLIAM (ALAN) SKREPNEK

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of William "Alan" Skrepnek on February 12, 2024, a cherished father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. Born on January 2, 1950, to Bill and Rose Skrepnek, Alan was predeceased by his parents and wife, Karen. He is remembered by his daughter, Carrie; son, Matthew (Maylee); grandson, Oliver; sisters, Connie (Dougall) and Rosemary (Tim); brother-in-law, Todd and his wife, Cathie; and niece, Julia.
Alan was our family's pillar, always ready to lend a hand or offer advice. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and love endures. Known for his vibrant personality, Alan's stories and accordion music brought joy and laughter.
Growing up in Winnipeg's west end, Alan attended General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre, graduating from the University of Winnipeg. He met his wife, Karen, at Water Resources, dedicating his career there. Their life, especially at their Bird River cottage, was filled with love and laughter. Karen's loss weighed heavily on him; we hope they are reunited in peace.
An avid storyteller and connector, Alan nurtured friendships and close relationships, leaving an indelible mark on those he touched. His legacy is in the love he shared and the lives he touched. We deeply mourn his loss but are grateful for our time with him. Dad, may you rest in peace. Thank you for everything. You are deeply missed.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • We are so sorry to hear about Alan’s passing. We have just found out today. From meeting Alan & Karen at a barbecue while they were in the UK for a friend’s son’s wedding & talking the night away we spent two amazing holidays staying with them in Winnipeg. We have such wonderful memories of being welcomed into their family; spending time at the cabin. Alan had an infectious smile & an endless supply of jokes. And there’s nothing he didn’t know about the flood defences of Winnipeg! He will be truly missed. Sending our deepest condolences to all his family & our love to Carrie & Matthew. - Posted by: Clive & Sandra Trerise (Friends) on: Dec 25, 2024

  • So sorry to here about the loss of Alan. He always put a smile on everyone's face and always seemed to have the accordion with him, ready to pull it out. The laughter and fun that he caused was always something you could count on when he was around. To Connie and Rosemary their families and to Alan and Karen's children we are so sorry to have heard of this passing. - Posted by: Conrad Solypa (Friend) on: Mar 17, 2024

  • Alan - you will be so dearly missed. I will forever remember the warm hug that you would always greet me with no mater what time of day. A quick visit to my place during an unplanned afternoon but ALWAYS weekends at the cabin were times I looked forward to. Sharing time with you, Karen, Carrie, Rosemary and Tim too. You were always the best of friends to both Greg and I ❤️ and thank you Alan for always having Greg under your wing. To have been with Greg on your final day is a testament to that friendship. Oh I miss you.😢 My hope is that you and Karen are now dancing together to an amazing tune you both loved and watching over us all. My sincere condolences to Rosemary, Tim, Carrie, Todd, Cathie, Julia, Bokie, Matt, Maylee and Oliver. 💐 💔 - Posted by: Cindy (Friend) on: Mar 10, 2024
