JOCELYNE SCOTT
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jocelyne Scott on March 7, 2024 at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jocelyne was born in Nakuru, Kenya and spent her early childhood on her parents’ pyrethrum farm with two younger sisters, Viviane and Françoise, entering boarding school at the age of seven. The Mau Mau rebellion of the 1950s precipitated a move to Switzerland, where she completed her A levels at Le Châtelard Academy in Montreux. She later studied anthropology and psychology at the University of London. Jocelyne married Christopher Scott in 1959 and, following the birth of her first two children, Anaïs and David, moved from Leigh-on-Sea, England to Île-à-la Crosse, Saskatchewan where Christopher practiced medicine and Jocelyne explored local cultures and traditions.
The family settled in Saskatoon in the mid-1960s where she had two more children, Karen and Alison, and pursued a Master’s in Psychology. Following her divorce in 1975, she moved to Manitoba and worked as a school psychologist, regularly travelling to various fly-in communities in the north.
In retirement, Jocelyne obtained a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts and, in her final decades, enjoyed gardening and working on her memoirs--translating the letters and journals of her parents and grandparents from French (her first language) into English.
Jocelyne was kind, infinitely patient, resilient, tenaciously independent and gentle. Predeceased by her daughters Alison in 2008 (Terry Jordan), and Anaïs in 2016 (Steve Humphreys). Jocelyne will be remembered with love and affection by her family: her children David (Laurel Howard), and Karen; her five grandchildren, Thaïs, Sydney, Zander, Elena, and Camille; her sisters Viviane Gatley, and Françoise Richard; her beloved pets, Niska, and Willow; and many others whose lives she touched.
Jocelyne’s family would like to thank the staff at HSC for their professional and compassionate care. Her family will gather for a Celebration of Life in the summer of 2024. Donations in Jocelyne’s memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to Jocelyne's family. Jocelyne was an exceptional person and exemplary role model. Her compassion, love for animals, gentle spirit, courage, and strength of intellect always shone through. Jocelyne's attention to detail and artistic sensibilities applied to many facets of her life. She loved her family and was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Jocelyne was writing a detailed family chronology, complete with photographs, letters, and varied historical artefacts. Her early life in Kenya had an indelible impact on her. In her work as a school psychologist in the northern communities, Jocelyne took the time to understand each child/youth and family and their unique situation. Her keen perception, problem -solving skills, and deep empathy enabled her to help so many. Jocelyne was also a gifted artist; this talent was also reflected in her beautiful flower and vegetable garden. In particular, the intricate labyrinth Jocelyne designed was home to new and unique flowers and herbs. Hard to grow flowers flourished in Jocelyne's garden. Jocelyne's life was a blessing and inspiration. She will be greatly missed. Sincerely, Karen Magro, Friend and Neighbor. - Posted by: Karen Magro (neighbor and friend) on: Mar 16, 2024
