On Sunday, March 10 the patriarch of our family passed peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre. He resided at our family home till after his 100th birthday.
He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his son Ken Ray (Jan), their daughters, Cassarah (Randy) Tesluck and Brittney (Rick) Chabbert; his daughter Patti McCorrister, and her daughters, Jennifer (Dwayne) Cummine, Colleen McCorrister (Nick) and Lorilynn McCorrister; son-in-law Kerry Smeltz, and grandson Steven. Dad was a proud great-grandpa to nine: Asher, Jagger, Quinn, Lexon, Grace, Dylan, Benjamin, Dreya and Monty.
He was predeceased by his one true love, his wife Patricia of 68 years, his daughter, Kathleen Smeltz, his son-in-law Merv McCorrister, his parents, Alice and Tom, and his sisters, Edna and Beatrice.
Gord was born and raised in Winnipeg and lived a very full life, always giving the best of himself . He was a fully devoted husband and father. He is a Veteran having served in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War; and then had a prestigious career in the carpet department of the T EATON Company. Some of his favourite pastimes were bingo, cribbage, camping and vacations with his family and later in life trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas with mom. In recent years, he enjoyed his trips to the casino with his family right up until his 101st birthday.
We thank the nurses, health care aides, and all staff at Deer Lodge Centre for being there for our dad.
A private family time will be had to celebrate our Dad, Grandpa/Pops and Great-Grandpa. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of our dad to a charity of your choice.
A true man we could turn to when times were good or bad;
one of our greatest blessings.
The man we call DAD.

I knew Gord and Patty when Gord worked at Eaton's. Our family lived next door on Dudley Ave. Later when my sister and I got married and we both moved out to Fort Richmond with growing families, there were Patti and Gord again. He was always full of fun, loved a joke, and was devoted to Pattie. May he rest in peace, his work here is now done. He has left a great legacy. Condolences to all his family and friends who can cherish his memory. (Chris Keegan Butterill). - Posted by: Chris Butterill (Friend from long ago.) on: Mar 23, 2024
