DENNIS TUREK

April 4, 1952 - March 21, 2024

Peacefully on Thursday March 21, 2024 at Health Sciences Centre, Dennis passed away at the age of 71 with his family at his side.

Dennis leaves to mourn his passing, his three children: Sherie (Jeff), Robert (Melissa), and Michael (Carly) and his granddaughters: Abigail, Sadie and Ashlee. He will be greatly missed by his Uncle Walter and Auntie Elaine as well as cousins Ron (Susan), Chrissy and their children.

Dennis was predeceased by his loving wife of 39 years, Arlene Turek, as well as his parents John and Valentine Turek and his in-laws Irene and Alvin Wiebe.

Dennis was born and raised in Winnipeg’s North End with summers spent at Twin Lakes Beach, where he met his beloved wife, Arlene. He was a natural leader. People gravitated towards his energy and were captivated by his story telling abilities, quick wit, and charm. He was extremely caring and generous with his time and energy. Dennis loved music, cheering for the Jets and Bombers, boating, and golfing. He enjoyed maintaining a beautiful yard and always looked forward to his winter vacations.

The D-Train will be greatly missed by the Twin Beach community, his winter Texan friends, as well as his many past colleagues and long-time friends. If you knew him, you have story. And that story will make the whole room weak with laughter.

Sail off Captain! In keeping with Dennis’s wishes a private service will be held.

In lieu of Flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Sincere sympathy to Dennis’ family. Dennis was a former colleague of mine at Salisbury Morse Place School. I remember his great smile and kind words of encouragement. May good memories bring you comfort in the days ahead. - Posted by: Marianne Sobie (Colleague) on: Mar 31, 2024

  • To me Dennis was one of a kind. He was caring….during the pandemic he visited me at my cottage and asked if any one in my family had been sick with COVID. We gave each other a big hug after the passing of your Mom as I was away for her funeral and he gave me a big hug after Bryne died as he was away for his funeral. Dennis was a good host and was not hesitant in complimenting my cooking or offering to help me with anything after Bryne’s passing. Your Dad and Bryne loved to talk about their toys at the lake and go for rides on each other‘s seadoos. I have known your Dad for 35 years and in that time I have seen a husband who dearly loved my friend..your Mom, who was very proud of his children, their spouses and his grandchildren. I will miss your Dad as it will take a while to get used to thinking he is not at the lake…..his favourite place. May he rest in peace.
