ORTEN JAMES DESJARLAIS

November 8, 1956 - April 10, 2024

With sadness we announce the passing of Orten on April 10, 2024, at the age of 67 years, at his residence.
Orten leaves to mourn his sisters, Evelyn and Brenda (Chuck), his nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nephews.
From a young age Orten always worked, he started off working at the Thunderbird Gas Station and Restaurant in Brokenhead with his Mom and Dad. Once he had his license in hand, he left the community at the age of 19 to go to work. It was then that he landed his first job as a roofer and this began his career as a roofer which lasted 30 plus years. He made a lot of lifelong friendships, and travelled and saw a lot of different places roofing. When he returned back to the community, he worked as a labourer and also as a medical transportation driver for the nation. He was also known as the local Church Historian, and we were always thankful for his knowledge of the Church.
Orten had a few favourite things that kept him busy, if it was summer he knew the best places to pick blue berries. Winter he was watching the Jets. Year round his phone would ring and he would be gone on a “trip” to Gull Lake, Selkirk or Winnipeg, he was the local Uber Driver. If he wasn’t home, we knew that there was a good chance that we would find him in one of his favourite seats at the VLT Centre or the casino.
These last few years had been challenging as his diabetes progressed to him requiring dialysis. It was then that we saw how strong and proud of a man he really was as he battled everyday to live the best he could while undergoing Dialysis Treatment. We are thankful for the time spent these past few years, as he continued to be his strong willed, defiant self through the weekly dialysis treatments and all the Drs. appointments.
Orten was predeceased by his father Samuel, mother Mildred, brothers, Rhinald, Charles, Earl, Kurt and siblings at infancy; his nephew Raymond; nieces, Tiffany and Irene; and his dog JoJo. Most recently his best friend and dialysis partner Leon Johnston in March.
Active Pallbearers: Trevor Desjarlais, Braeden Thomas, Errol Desjarlais, Earl Jr. Desjarlais, Garnet Desjarlais, Brent Desjarlais,
Honorary Pallbearers: his nieces, Angela, Crystal, Destiny, Penny, Tamara, his nephews, Winston, Kurt Jr., Jamie, Jeremy, Trenton, his cousin Albert Tommy Prince, and good friend Richard Sinclair
A two-day Wake service will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 through to Sunday, April 21. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m., all at the Private Tom Chief Memorial Hall. Interment to follow at St. Phillips Anglican cemetery. The Family would like to thank all those that have reached out, sent condolences, they are so appreciated.
