WAYNE KENNETH SAWCHUK

July 13, 1951 - September 19, 2023

It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Kenneth Sawchuk age 72. Wayne passed away suddenly at his home, after a hard fought battle with cancer on September 19, 2023.

Wayne was predeceased by brothers, Robert, Norman, Ron and his mom and dad, Carrie (Corso) and George.

Wayne was born in Winnipeg, MB, lived a majority of his life in Morse Place and attended Miles MacDonell Collegiate. He went on to work for the Canadian National Railway (CNR) on March 4, 1974 in Signals & Communications in the Prairie Region until his retirement (after 32 years of service) on May 31, 2006.

Wayne's favourite pastimes included annual fishing trips out to Lee River, MB, Saturday afternoons at the Legion and watching the Winnipeg Blue Bombers battle it out on the field or Winnipeg Jets on the ice.

A private service will be held at a later date as per Wayne's request.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Wayne and I grew up across the street from each other. We spent a lot of time together as young boys in a friendlier time. We lost touch over the years, but the last number years we ran into each other frequently at the grocery store. We always had time for a short chat which made the years disappear. I will miss seeing him and our reminiscent conversations. - Posted by: Richard Hill (Friend) on: Apr 30, 2024

  • Wayne was a friend of my husband's, Pat Krecsy, we hung out with Wayne all through High School. He drove around in a 57 Chev in those days! He was the Best Man at our wedding 51 years ago! We moved to BC in 1978 and lost touch with Wayne. Life has a way of doing that! RIP Wayne!!! - Posted by: Cathy Krecsy (Friend) on: Apr 21, 2024

  • We spent many weekends together doing what young men do. I had not seen Wayne for many years but think of those formative days and nights often! More so today! Rest well buddy! - Posted by: John Ford (Old friend) on: Apr 21, 2024
