It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Louise O'Grady, who left us peacefully at Jocelyn House on April 18, 2024, at the age of 84.
Louise and her brother Ken were raised at the Granite Curling Club. In the summer, they lived at the club where their parents managed the cabins and campgrounds. During the winter, they resided in the house next to the Granite, where their father was a well-known icemaker. Louise also spent her formative years working for Sam Diamond at the Times Soda Bar on Broadway. There, she famously crafted corned beef sandwiches that Sam would claim cost him a fortune whenever the Blue Bomber players visited, drawn by Louise's starry gaze.
Louise dedicated her life to education and her role as a housewife. She graduated from Teachers College in 1959, a vibrant and determined young woman who immediately began her teaching career at Birds Hill School. It was at college where she met her lifelong partner and love, Chris O'Grady, with whom she shared many joyful years both at home and during their cherished winters in Mesa at Trail Riders Holiday Park, their beloved retreat. Louise was predeceased by her husband Chris who passed away in 2017.
Louise was not only a masterful bridge player with a close circle of friends who shared her passion for the game but also an exceptional cook, famously hosting family dinners every Thursday. She was surprisingly adept at technology, her ability to adapt to and embrace new tech made her an unexpected savant in the digital world, bringing her closer to family and friends no matter the distance.
We are profoundly grateful to the caring staff at Jocelyn House for their unwavering support and kindness in Louise's final days. Louise leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by her brother Ken (Lynne); her nephews, Grant and Riley; her nieces, Sabrina (Pia) and KC (AJ); and her extended family, Jennifer (Gord) and Michele (Keegan).
Louise’s spirit, teachings, recipes, and surprising tech skills will live on through the many lives she touched. In compliance with Louise's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held.

Auntie Louise and Uncle Chris are deeply missed. I cannot hear a Jonny Cash song without being transported in memory to loving times at the cottage - singing, laughing, story telling. Auntie Louise for many years had out family over to enjoy watching the Grey Cup together. A few times she stayed with my brother and I when my parents travelled. After school there would alway be a creative, interesting treat..a hard boiled egg baked into a muffin really stands out n my memory! She alway made me feel important to her with the way she listened and focused on me. My condolences to Ken, “the boys” and the rest of the family - Kara - Posted by: Kara (Buchholz) Crawford (Friend) on: Apr 28, 2024
