Myrna Legaspi Mateo, age 73, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024.
Myrna was born on February 22, 1951 in Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines to Rafael and Danila Mateo. She graduated from The Philippines College of Commerce with a banking and commerce degree. Myrna moved to Canada in 1973 and began work at Acklands Ltd. She remained with the company up until her retirement 44 years later in 2017. Myrna was quiet, private, strong-willed and stubborn but equally had a generous heart of gold. In April of 1982, Myrna took on the role of mom to her two young nieces, Liezl and Cheryl.
Despite being a reserved person, Myrna volunteered with Magdaragat Philippines Inc. and could be found yearly selling souvenirs at the Pearl of the Orient Pavilion. She supported Liezl and Cheryl's involvement in Magdaragat as well and became a dance mom, chaperone, and singer with the Mabuhay Serenaders. Myrna was also involved in the Bacoor Association of Manitoba which provided a sense of community for those missing home. Myrna served as treasurer for eight years.
Myrna is preceded in death by her father Rafael, mother Danila, brother Isagani, sister-in-law Violeta Mateo, and brother-in-law Eddie Santiaguel. She is survived by her sisters and in-laws, Luz Santiaguel, Lucita Mateo, Angie Mateo, Isabel and Felipe Dimaunahan and Nancy Mateo, nieces, Liezl Mateo, Cherylyn and Greg Lintao Jr. and grandsons, Logan and Grayson. She will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews, Mylee Santiaguel, Joycee and Ryan San Miguel (Lincoln and Trinity), Denis and Joanna Dimaunahan (Avery), Audrey and Erwin Vitug (Christian and Jolie), Naomi and Junsay Reyes (Isaiah and Isabella), Rafdaniel Mateo, Danisa Mateo and David Crowchild (Alaia).
The family would like to thank Dr. Eze and Dr. Green along with her team for all their support and care.
Viewing (Lamay) will be held on Friday May 3, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at Mosaic Funeral Chapel and Reception Centre, 1839 Inkster Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday May 4, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St Mary's Cathedral, 353 St. Mary Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

My condolences to Myrna’s family. I had the privilege of working with Myrna for the last twelve years of her career, and will always remember her fondly. Myrna was a hard worker, always calm, quiet and helpful. Her eyes would light up when she talked about Liezl and Cheryl, always very proud of the girls. Rest in peace Myrna, from your Acklands-Grainger family. - Posted by: Darlene Van Deynze (Co-worker) on: Apr 29, 2024

My condolences to Myrna's nieces and family. She talked of her nieces often and the pride she felt at their accomplishments. Inspired me when my son was in nursing school with stories of her nieces during their nursing school years. I worked with Myrna at Acklands and for many years our desks were beside each other. She was a very kind soul! She will be missed. - Posted by: Tracy Falk (Friend) on: Apr 27, 2024
