MARILYN BJORNSON

(nee NAHERNY)

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Marilyn Bjornson on April 26, 2024, at the age of 68, at Grace Hospital.

Marilyn leaves to mourn her devoted husband, Cameron Bjornson; children, Eric (Annik) Bjornson and Lisa Bjornson; grandsons, Jack and Luke Bjornson; her father Norman Naherny; sister Margaret Bryner; and brother Bill Naherny. She also leaves to mourn Cameron’s family, his mother Nell Bjornson; his brother Brian (Linda) Bjornson; sister Lori Savage; and numerous other relatives and friends. Earlier this year she was predeceased by her mother Helen Naherny.

Marilyn grew up in Garden City, graduating from Garden City Collegiate in 1973 where she fostered friendships with Cathy, Joan, and Tina that would last a lifetime. Marilyn and her dear friends established a tradition of regular dinners which she always came home from with a sore stomach from laughing so hard.

Shortly after graduating high school, Marilyn married her husband, Cameron. They moved to the West End of Winnipeg where they have remained ever since. Their relationship was marked by a unique interdependency and mutual appreciation for life’s simple joys. They enjoyed traveling prior to starting their family, numerous camping trips, a rare few weeklong childless vacations, and numerous late-night conversations at the kitchen table or in their backyard, often joined by friends and neighbours.

Marilyn’s greatest joy in life was her family. She dedicated her life to raising her children as a stay-at-home mom and was immensely proud of them. Marilyn was a constant presence in her children’s lives, showing great interest in their academic achievements and volunteering her time with their school activities and sports teams. In her later years, she found great joy in being a grandmother. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, sharing stories, or playing games with them.

Marilyn’s enterprising spirit was evident in the successful house rental business she and her husband built through countless hours planning and completing renovations, and bargain hunting for materials and hardware. She embraced her role as a landlady, meticulously managing all of the details.

Marilyn prided herself on her sense of humour. She was quick-witted and had a knack for bringing laughter to any room with a simple comment (or a ‘jab’!). She loved to dance and relished the opportunity to hit the dance floor for an oldie or a polka. She was always eager to organize and participate in garage sales with friends, turning them into lively social events.

Marilyn lived her life on her own terms. She was a central figure in her family and circles of friends, and her passing will leave a void in the lives of many.

Rest in peace, Mom. You will be forever loved and deeply missed.
