ERMENEGILDO DI BIAGGIO

March 6, 1938 - April 21, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ermenegildo Di Biaggio, known to all as Gildo. He left us peacefully after a courageous and long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving and adoring daughters, Cinzia and Daniela.

Gildo was born on March 6, 1938, in San Daniele Del Friuli, Italy. At the age of five he lost his father in the Second World War. His mother had three children to raise and at the age of six he was sent to boarding school for war orphans where he studied and became an electrician. At 22 he did military service as an Alpine soldier. At the age of 25 he met the love of his life in their hometown movie theatre and from there their love story began. He immigrated to Canada in 1965 and began married life a year later when his wife Annamaria arrived, making Winnipeg their home.

He was a hard working man and gave 35 years of service to Conforce Construction. He was an active member of the Italian Community, one of the founders of the Fogolar Friulano of Winnipeg and of the Alpini Group section of Winnipeg.

He loved nature and the simple things in life. Gardening was his passion and he could always be heard humming a happy tune.

Gildo was a kind and gentle soul, always ready to give and sacrifice himself for his family which he was very proud of. After the death of his wife in 2021, he moved to Vancouver where he was cared for by his daughter Cinzia. He never forgot his friends and remaining family in Winnipeg.

Gildo will be greatly missed but not forgotten by his daughters, Cinzia and Daniela, grandchildren, Nicholas, Luca and Sara , sons-in-law, Duncan and Riccardo, sister Lidia, brothers-in-law, Luciano, and Renzo, sister-in-law, Pierina, as well as nieces and nephews, Annamaria, Laura, Stefania, Fabiana, Gino, Barbara, Marcus and Eros.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 18 at 2:00 p.m. at La Boutique Del Vino, Winnipeg.
