GEORGE ROBERT CAMPBELL

January 1, 1933 - May 12, 2024

Sadly, our loving dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather, George Campbell (better known as "Bop" by his family), and friend to many, passed away Sunday, May 12 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.

He is survived by his daughter Gayle Kolba (Peter) and their children, Jodi, Danny (Taryn), and Lynn. He is also survived by his daughter Sandy Walker (Dale), and their children, Julia (Jett) and Lee, and his treasured great-granddaughter, Aubrey. He is met on the next leg of his journey by his loving wife, Marge Campbell, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his brother Fred Campbell, sister Connie Snarr and brother-in-law Bud Snarr.

George was born in the North End of Winnipeg at the height of the depression, then spent the war years in the town of Morris with his grandparents. Upon his return to Winnipeg, he lived with his Uncle Norm and Aunty Vi who he was especially fond of. He started his career as a lineman at MTS in 1952 and advanced through the ranks before retiring in 1990.

George fell in love with Marge on a blind date and they were married in 1952. They raised their two girls on Beverley Street before settling in the east end of Transcona. After retirement, George and Marge bought their dream home on the 2nd green of the Sandy Hook golf course. It was here where they made many dear friends. They enjoyed playing golf in the summer and travelling south to continue their golf adventures in the winters. After Marge passed in 2010, George settled back in Transcona where he spent many hours on his balcony with a cup of tea watching the action in the park across the street.

George was an avid sportsman who loved all sports but was especially fond of curling, golf, hockey, baseball, and football. In his later years, he became more of a fan than a player. His passion for cheering for his favourite teams spread to his grandchildren and provided countless hours of fun together. The grandkids will also always treasure their special beach days with Bop, and the countless scoops of ice cream shared.

George was a wonderful husband, father, Bopa and great-Bopa and loved hearing about everyone's interests, goals, and accomplishments over a home-cooked meal. What an appetite this man had! His sharp wit and dry humour were appreciated by all who knew him. He built lasting relationships and impacted more people than we can ever know. He was wise, strong, kind, humble and generous. He never complained or asked for anything. He was solid as a rock.

There are no words to describe how much he was loved and will be missed.

Nighty night dad and pat pat.

As per George's request, there will be no funeral. Flowers are respectfully declined, and George would prefer if you planted a tree or shared a meal with your loved ones.
