Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNINA JAKUBOWICZ
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nina Janina Jakubowicz on May 19, 2024, in Winnipeg MB. Nina passed away peacefully, not due to any illness, but simply from the fullness of her years.
As a family, we feel immense sadness at the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother. However, we are also profoundly grateful for the 99 years we had with her, as she was just six weeks shy of her 100th birthday.
Nina was born in Eastern Europe on July 1, 1924, to Russian parents. Her life was irrevocably changed at the age of 15 by the outbreak of Second World War. She endured hardship and survived labour camps. After the war, she emigrated to Canada, settling in Winnipeg where she began her career as a nurse. It was in Winnipeg that she met her husband Krysztof, with whom she shared 38 years of marriage until his passing in 1988. Following this, Nina found companionship with Jim, and they enjoyed over 30 years of traveling and each other's company.
Nina’s career as a nurse spanned several decades at various health facilities in Winnipeg, with the majority of her service dedicated to the Misericordia Hospital. Known affectionately as Mrs. Jackie due to the pronunciation challenges of her last name, she was a cherished and respected member of the healthcare community.
Nina leaves behind her daughters Helen, Renata (Lee) and granddaughter Carrie (Arnie), grandchildren Quinten and Esa, great grandchildren Daniel (Michelle), Celina, Alyssa (Rob) and great great-grandchildren Remi and Nola.
Nina was a remarkable woman, known for her strength, intelligence, and intuition. Her sense of humor and zest for life were infectious, drawing people to her. She valued the moments spent sharing food and stories with family and friends, listening intently, and offering her compassion.
In honoring her wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation/Therapeutic Recreation 204.788.8458 or www.misericordiafoundation.com/

I met “Jackie” when I started working as a nurse at the MIs. What a powerhouse! What a good person! What a nurse who practiced and understood excellence! She set a high standard! We lost touch with one another when she left the MIs. Condolences to the family. How lucky you have been to have her with you this long. - Posted by: Louise Gillman (Former colleague, friend) on: Jun 08, 2024
