Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH ALBERT DUHAMEL
It is with great sadness in our hearts that the family announces our beloved and cherished Husband, Father, Brother, Papa, Uncle and cousin, Bert Duhamel, who recently celebrated his 70th birthday, died unexpectedly, with his family by his side, at the Brandon Regional Hospital on June 4, 2024.
Bert was predeceased by his parents, Antonin Duhamel and Rita Gagne; his sisters, Doris and Irma; and brother, Larry. Bert is survived by his wife, Carla; his son, Brent (Joann); his daughters, Nicole (Sean), Jewel, Zoey, Kylie, and Leta; his sisters, Marlene and Darlene; his brothers, Jerry, Joseph, Daniel and their spouses; and 10 grandchildren.
Bert was born in Rainy River, Ontario, on April 9, 1954, and was raised in Atikokan, Ontario, where he spent most of his days outdoors and being picked on by his older brothers. As a teenager, Bert moved to Winnipeg and attended St. John’s High School, where he could often be found on a sports field. Bert lived most of his life in Winnipeg, Manitoba; he recently retired from Scott National/Sysco, where he worked for 40 plus years. Bert touched the soul of every person he met with his selflessness, heart of gold and great sense of humour. Bert was an enormous sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing Pokémon, being surrounded by his family and friends, playing card games, and attending sports outings. He was always the life of the party.
Dad, you are my best friend; you have always been my angel and my heart. A day will not go by that you are not missed dearly, especially during our morning coffee talks or car rides. I love you with all my heart until we meet again.
A Celebration of Life for Bert will occur at Sinclair Park Community Centre, 490 Sinclair St., Winnipeg, MB, on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please bring a funny story or a dish that Bert would have loved to share with his loved ones.

To everybody that knew my uncle Bert when I was a child. He made me laugh a lot and you made me Merlo Comeau he always made us laugh. When I was a kid he gave us a beautiful dog named candy. I’ll never forget that dog. He was gorgeous. I hope you’re dancing in the sky with my son, uncle Bert, and enjoying the family in heaven with your beautiful presence, thinking about you sorry I didn’t make it to the funeral but you know I’m thinking about you, love Muriel - Posted by: Muriel (Niece) on: Jun 16, 2024

My deepest condolences go out to Bert’s family. I had the pleasure to work with Bert for decades here at Sysco Winnipeg. As the President, Bert would always drop by my office to see me and share his stories with me. He was also always the guy at stand up for his peers and the entire operations team as well put our customers first everyday. He shared his love of his family, of his co-workers, of our customers, and of the entire Sysco family. Always a huge smile and a belly laugh in the lunch room and always the center of everyone’s attention. Bert is one of a kind and I can tell you he made a huge imprint on all of our hearts here. Such a tragedy to see his life ending so young. We are a better world because of Bert. Rest in peace my friend. ❤️ we will miss you dearly. - Posted by: Kim Doherty (Co-worker) on: Jun 11, 2024

Nicole, I am so sorry to hear about your dad. He was a great man! I will cherish my fond memories of him taking us to see Rainbow Bright & staying with us while we camped out for New Kids tickets, among so many other great memories. Your dad was such a sweet soul and a huge piece of why our childhoods' were so wonderful. You were the light of his life, we all knew it. He will be missed. <3 - Posted by: Michelle Sweeney (Nicole's childhood friend) on: Jun 10, 2024

Bert was a truly special man, a solid friend and a wise , gentle, caring person. His family was his pride and sports his passion. He took his twin sisters under his protective wings from early years and guided them through adulthood to become the best they could be. Bert was lovingly teased by his brothers, whom he looked up to, only because he was admired for his strengths and the joy he brought to everyone around him. I am honoured to have known Bert. Rest in peace and everlasting perpetual glory. - Posted by: Marianne Sundin (Friend) on: Jun 08, 2024
