Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA (ANICA) POREDOS
It is with great sadness that we announce that Anna (Anica) Poredos (nee Kos) passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024, at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 87 years.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Anton, sons, Boris and Vlado (Lisa) and granddaughter Anica. She leaves to mourn many friends and relatives in both Winnipeg and Slovenija.
Anna was born on August 5, 1936, in the village of Zgorna Kungota near Maribor, Slovenija to Ivan and Marija Kos. She was married to Anton on May 14, 1967, and both immigrated to Canada on a cold day on January 5, 1968, for a better life. She was a devout Catholic her whole life and was warmly welcomed by the Slovenian community and church. She always carried a rosary with her and attended weekly mass in person or on TV when it was too difficult to attend.
Anna’s great passion was her garden. She grew a variety of vegetables all from seed including lettuce, beets, beans, carrots, hot peppers, onions and especially her famous tomatoes (her secret was to start them early each spring). She would spend many days meticulously picking weeds from the garden and lawn by hand, to make it look perfect each year.
Similarly, many people marvelled at how well she could grow flowers as her home was adorned with beautiful varieties, inside and out, each year. She also planted a spruce tree in the front yard which is now taller than the house itself.
Christmas and Easter will never be the same without her homemade beef noodle soup, cabbage rolls, stuffed peppers, plum dumplings, pickled beets and apple strudel. She also showed her talent in how she decorated the home to make it look special during holiday seasons and how wonderful she made everyone feel, she will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank Father Diosdado P. Parrenas (Dado) for the many visits to Anna over the years, the 4th floor (E4) of St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion the last few weeks of her life, as well as to Holy Family Home, St. Francis unit for her care over the past year.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church (95 MacDonald Ave., Winnipeg, MB) with Father Diosdado P. Parrenas officiating. Burial will follow in Transcona Cemetery (5014 Dugald Road, Winnipeg, MB).
If lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes at ollparishcouncil@gmail.com or a charity of one’s choice.
