THEODORE POMES

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ted, age 91, on June 10, 2024.

He will be dearly missed by the love of his life Irene, daughter Sandra (Dave), sister Gerry (Jack) and their families, Andrea (Chris), Doug (Zoe) Otis and Oscar, Karyn (Fred).

Ted was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Lily Pomes, in-laws, Adolph and Katherine Scholl, and recently by his sister-in-law Norma.

Born on May 7, 1933 he grew up in the North End where he met Irene at a dance. They married in 1959 and purchased a brand-new home in East Kildonan where they resided for 62 years.

Ted started his career at the City of Winnipeg Finance Dept., was promoted to committee clerk in the City Clerks dept. 1966. He was then appointed to the position of clerk of the executive policy committee until he retired after 42 years of service.

During this time Ted also served on numerous boards, Civic Employees Benefits, Civic Employees Credit Union; along with many positions at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church and loved singing in the choir. Dad enjoyed curling, golf and camping; curled out of the Valour Road Club and held the club team Championship for many years. After retirement Dad joined the Manitoba seniors golf league, enjoyed the weekly games. Summers were spent at Spruce Sands Resort where they enjoyed the company of family and friends.

In keeping with Ted’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Cemetery.

Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free,

I’m following the path God laid for me

I took his hand when I heard him call,

I turned my back and left it all

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work or play

Tasks left undone must stay that way,

I’ve found that peace at the close of day

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Ah yes, these things I too will miss

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,

I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow

My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,

Good friends, good times,

my loved one’s touch

If my time seemed all too brief,

Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief

Lift up your heart, rejoice with me,

God wanted me now, He set me free.
