Thankamma Auntie, a trailblazer among the early Malayali Canadians in Winnipeg, was a successful professional nurse who dedicated her life to caring for others professionally and later in retirement life. In her retirement, she emerged as a community leader, supported by her loving husband, Ken Eapen, and their three adult sons and their families. Her kindness, whether through her encouraging words or her nourishing food, touched countless lives in our community. Aleyamma was a pillar of strength and faith in our small church group. Her love, commitment, and unwavering Christian faith have left us with countless cherished memories. May her soul find her cherished crown of eternal life. With love and remembrance, Alex & Sunita Abraham. - Posted by: Alex Abraham (Friend) on: Jul 05, 2024

It has been said well by many already, Aunty Thankamma blessed countless people by offering tirelessly and faithfully her gifts of hospitality of heart and home. I was the recipient of Uncle Ken and Aunty Thankamma’s generosity throughout my childhood and young adulthood, having been embraced by the love of a Malayali Community during the years of my growing up in Winnipeg. I am a long ways from those early years now, and though I have not moved far away, the world I inhabit now is full of people who have had very different childhood experiences than the one I was gifted with. It is hard to capture the value of being raised in a community that has consistently loved, supported, nourished, cheered, and prayed for you. Aunty Thankamma and Uncle Ken were leaders in a community that was all that for me. In the book of Isaiah we read of leaders that are “like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a parched land.” Aunty Thankamma, alongside Uncle Ken, anchored a whole community that became shelter and refuge for generations of younger people growing up after them. Having been recipients of this great blessing, may we be encouraged to follow the example she had set and be people that offer refreshment of body and spirit to those we find ourselves in community with. With prayers for comfort and strength to the Eapen family, Ida-Lynn Gregan, Winnipeg. - Posted by: Ida-Lynn Gregan (Family friend ) on: Jul 05, 2024

Aleyamma Eapen (Thankamma) was a a self-effacing Christian who tirelessly and freely served her family, church family and the South Asian community. With her widely reputed culinary skills and her gift of warm hospitality she blessed the many visitors and stay-in guests in their home. She prepared and served meals with care, speed and charm. Not eating at her fellowship table could induce guilt because of the many options of edibles that she will place before you. We have wondered how did she manage to balance a full time nursing role, raise a family, engage in constant hospitality and participate in church activities. Diligence and perseverance were some of the admirable qualities she displayed. She adored her energetic and jovial husband Ken and they both guided their children to love and the Lord Jesus and people. They created a wonderful legacy. We will cherish the multiple visits we had in their home and the memories we created together. Aleyamma is in the loving eternal arms of her Saviour and Master.. What a better place can one be?
