It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Harry Kowalchuk - a loving husband, father, and grandpa - on June 30, 2024, at the age of 87 at St. Boniface Hospital.
Harry was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Sophie, his brother Billy, sister Nellie and sister-in-law Penny.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 63 years Shirley, sons Robert (Idelle), Barri, Kelly (Rebecca), and his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Anna, Evan, Noah, Brett, and Kira; also, his sister Helen, brothers-in-law William (Irene) and Mike, and many nieces and nephews.
Harry was born in Ostersund, Ontario on July 25, 1936. He lived in many places growing up as his father worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway, finally settling in Gonor, MB where he received his education, graduating in Grade 11.
He spent his working life in the lumber business starting with Modern Lumber in 1955, followed by Monarch Lumber in 1958, and Capital Lumber in 1962 which he would then purchase in 1981.
He was president of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Gonor right up until his passing.
Harry enjoyed spending time at his various cottages (sometimes owning up to three at once), running around cutting grass and removing fallen trees. He enjoyed travelling to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cuba and California. He was a big Winnipeg Blue Bomber and Jets fan. In recent years, Harry loved to take his classic 1974 car to car shows in the area.
Harry was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Selkirk Regional Health Centre and St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion while Harry was in their care.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. The service will be officiated by Fr. Evan Maximiuk and Fr. Taras Udod.
The pallbearers are sons Robert, Barri, and Kelly Kowalchuk, grandsons Evan, and Noah Kowalchuk and Godson Garry Yaworski.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Gonor, 6957 Henderson Highway, Lockport, MB, R1B 1A4, or a charity of your choice.

Peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2024, with family by his side at the St. Boniface Hospital, Harry Kowalchuk, aged 87 years of Kirkness, MB, beloved husband of Shirley, passed away.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB.
