KERRY GRANT WEISS

February 6, 1968 - June 28, 2024

It is with heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Kerry Grant Weiss. This obituary will be less traditional than most but will come from the heart.

Those of you who knew of his illness over the last years, will know what his life became. Those of you who did not, you should know that Kerry was surrounded by a magnitude of love and support during his treacherous journey with Bulbar Onset ALS and Frontal Lobe Dementia. It was the cruelest way to leave this earth.

Kerry is survived by his wife Michelle Weiss and the light of his life, our daughter Amanda. He is also survived by his mom Shirley Weiss, sister Shannon Weiss, brother-in-law Ted Cade and the other light of his life, our nephew Brendan Cade. He is also survived by my immediate family - Udo and Sigrid Naujoks and Susanne and Darren Barnhart. He was predeceased by his dad Alvin Weiss, lovingly remembered as Bumpa.

Kerry loved family and friends. Our little family, including our dog Tobi - known as the “Little Fella”, the Weiss family, the Naujoks family, and the friends who became family - you know who you are. But above all, his world revolved around our daughter Amanda.

His memory will live on in the many friendships that he had built over his life - his first 26 years in the community of Crestview, his working years, our cottage years at Hillside Beach, the time spent playing rec hockey, the time spent on the golf course and of course the years at our home in North Kildonan. He loved it here when he was able to take Amanda to her various community sports. Kerry volunteered to coach and support those teams - he loved that a lot! All of these life experiences created a village of friends that surrounded him, and our family, with an amazing outpouring of love and support during this terribly unfair journey.

Kerry had a great deal of integrity, was loyal and patient and would do anything for anyone. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends - laughter, great conversation and a nice cold beer brought him so much joy.

A Celebration of Life to honour this beautiful soul is being planned for early fall. If you would like to receive details about this event, we invite you to send an email to the following email address: KWcelebration@outlook.com

Thank you to all ‘our people’ for the support you have given our family during his journey with this cruel disease. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the umbrella of services that supported Kerry and our family during this time. The people who work in these areas are unsung heroes and have provided heartfelt care including (but not limited to) the staff at the Motor Neuron Disease Clinic at Deer Lodge, the ALS Society of Manitoba, and the amazing staff on the unit at Deer Lodge who supported Kerry and our family with so much love and care.

At this difficult time, I know that people who loved us may wish to do something to honour Kerry’s memory. A charitable donation could be made to a charity of your choice or to the ALS Society of Manitoba, Alzheimer Society (who also support rare dementia in our community) or to the Deer Lodge Centre who provided outstanding care to Kerry.

If it is true that our dearly departed can see us from wherever they are now, I hope that Kerry knows how much I loved and appreciated and cherished him and the beautiful life we made.

Rest in eternal peace my love. xoxoxoxoxo
