ROBERT JOHN DURWARD

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert John (Bob) Durward, our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Bob passed away peacefully at MICU in HSC. With his family by his side on July 9, 2024, at the age of 80 years. He was predeceased by his parents Jock and Frances Durward, in-laws Peter and Mary Rawluk, grandmother Emma Sullivan.

He is survived by his loving wife Eleanor and children Caren (Gil), Kevin, Krista (Kevin), Colin, his grandchildren, Jayden, Lexi, Avery, and Charlie, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Bill Kellas, niece Alison.

Bob was born on October 10,1943 in Winnipeg. He grew up in the East Kildonan-Morse place community. He attended Morse Place elementary school and Miles Macdonell Collegiate. The connections he made at school became lifelong friends. In October 1966 at a Bomber game, he met his future wife Eleanor. They married on September 9, 1967.

Bob was employed with the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission for 35 years. He held many positions while working there and enjoyed being the warehouse manager. He was an avid curler and bowler and held season tickets to the Blue Bombers for many years. After retiring at age 58, dad began bartending on weekends at various events throughout the city.

Summers were spent at the family cottage at Falcon Lake. During the winter months, dad and mom spent their time in Arizona for many years. As well, they travelled extensively throughout the U.S in their fifth wheel; always making friends along the way. The most memorable holiday were their two trips to Southeast Asia.

Bob will be remembered as a kind, quiet, and generous man by all who knew him. Dad lived his life for his family, making sure they always had what they needed. He had a great sense of humour and with one look could convey his feelings.

Flowers are gratefully declined, if friends so wish donations can be made in Bob's name to Diabetes Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

In keeping with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on July 18, 2024, at Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Eleanor and family: Thinking of you at this most difficult time. I remember when you got engaged when we worked together in the late 60's. I didn't know Bob well but the times we met he was pleasant and easy going. I remember your mom made you the best sandwiches. Although we haven't been in touch lately, I think of you often and some of the other great people we worked with eg. Maria, Judy, Lesley, Rita, Joan. I lost my husband of 53 years in January and I feel your pain. Lorna (Wong) Gallagher - Posted by: Lorna Gallagher (Former Co-Worker) on: Jul 17, 2024

  • Eleanor, I know we haven't spoken in many years but I have thought of you and Bob many times. He was always a great guy to be around. Very thoughtful and kind with a great sense of humor. My thoughts are with you and your family. - Posted by: Judy Pauls (Smyrl) (Old acquaintance ) on: Jul 13, 2024
