Date of Passing: Jul 12, 2024
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD HARRIS SAPER
A bright light was extinguished when Ronald Saper, surrounded by family, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life Celine Goyette, his children, Alec and Katelyn Saper, mother Satomi Pat Saper, and siblings, Zalman Saper (Dana Kripp), Michelle Saper, James Saper (Julia Stauffer). He is survived by relatives on the Saper and Hirayama sides of his family.
Ron was born in Winnipeg and attended Acadia Junior High and Fort Richmond Collegiate. He was brilliant and excelled at everything he tried, including Greco-Roman wrestling (won a bronze medal in Sweden as a teen), judo, track and field, sailing, guitar, mandolin, and song writing. In junior high, he built a robot that could avoid obstacles and navigate around a room. At age 17, he left home to study Engineering at the University of Waterloo.
Ron founded Vantage Point International, which used data gathered from Canada’s Radar Sat to forecast flooding in Manitoba’s flood of ’97.
He was passionate about making music and had a great talent for songwriting. He sang and played guitar at open mic events in Ottawa and elsewhere.
Ron had a positive outlook and gratitude for his family, friends, and his life. Ron was most proud of his kids Alec and Katelyn, whom he adored. He loved with an open heart and was deeply loved in return. He was an incredible person, a wonderful brother, son, husband and father.
As he once said while working on a puzzle, you are aware of the missing pieces. He is our missing piece. We will miss him terribly and will always remember him.
A celebration of his life will take place in Ottawa at a date TBA.

Ron was one of the first people I met when I moved to Winnipeg, in 1969, and was a friend who enjoyed doing unorthodox activities. When we were 12 or so, in 1976, we spent a few days blasting stuff with a gun made from coke cans taped together, using evaporated lighter fluid as a propellant. Ron also made a cool little flame thrower. He stood up to bullies in the junior high halls, and was filled with humorous commentary in class. I watched a home made movie of the Beatles at his house in Ft. Richmond.. which started melting, much to his Mum’s chagrin. My brother Kevin, was in a band with Ron’s brother, Zalman, in the early 80’s. He seemed wise while young. Condolences to all who were lucky enough to know him. - Posted by: Mark Yuill (Friend) on: Jul 20, 2024

Really sad to hear of Ron's passing. Remember first seeing Ron zipping around the U of Manitoba Pan Am Stadium at the elementary school division track meets, he was winning everything, We all knew who he was, the great athlete from Ryerson Elementary School; at Acadia, it was immediately seen that in addition to his strength and fitness that Ron was both academically and artistically gifted. One of those kind, encouraging persons we considered ourselves fortunate to have known. - Posted by: Paul Buchanan (classmate at Acadia and Fort Richmond Collegiate) on: Jul 20, 2024

I remember Ron very well in high school. He was a genius and talented individual in sports and science, but also one of the nicest people I knew. He was cool. He was well-liked by everyone and I’m a little saddened that the world just lost one of the good guys. Our condolences to Celine and Ron’s family. - Posted by: Jake Cadigal (High school classmate) on: Jul 20, 2024
