Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Dear Rita and Jennifer, My heartfelt condolences for your loss. Knowing that Arnold is no longer suffering and in a better place, is the only comfort we all have. I met you all in Split Lake, 1992/1993. He is the one taught me to cook the meat with Patel's Madras Curry paste during store visits. I enjoyed the stay at your house and the hot, healthy meals. Arnold was a good business man. He helped many people to be successful in business and played the role of a mentor to many. He taught me lots about the importance of saving money and about RRSP/ company shares etc. Arnold will be dearly missed by many who came to know him as a true Norwester!! - Posted by: Abraham Simon (colleague) on: Sep 03, 2024

  • Arnold and I met in Island Lake MB in July 1968 as fellow "Management Trainees" with the N.Stores Division of the HBC. He was at the time "senior clerk" having spent about a year at the location prior to my arrival. He met me at the plane as I arrived and having picked up my luggage hefted it onto his shoulder and said "follow me". A a man of few words, but action oriented, he quickly oriented me to the duties of a "new recruit" and helped me through the first few months in a new land and a new life. Our paths crossed many times in the ensuing 50 plus years and Arnold's dedication and commitment to "the honorable company" was his signature within the old HBC and it's successor TNWC. I have no doubt that he is fondly remembered and respected in the various communities where he ran the local "Bay Store" over several decades. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to his wife Rita and their extended family. I was very fortunate to have known both Arnold and Rita since they first met in Island Lake all those years ago when we were all just starting out in life. - Posted by: Bill Moore (Fellow HBC Employee "Gentlemen Adventurers Trading Into Hudson Bay" ) on: Aug 23, 2024

  • Our deepest sympathy to Rita and Jennifer in the loss of Arnold. After we emigrated from England in 1979, Arnold was the first Hudsons Bay Company store manager, that I worked with at Cross Lake. We both have many happy memories of our time with Arnold and Rita, and Jennifer and Sheena. Hunting trips with Arnold, and great suppers in their home. Our thoughts are now with Rita and Jennifer. Rest in Peace Arnold. Paul and Jean Krepps Ian Krepps, and Paula Paterson (Krepps) - Posted by: Paul and Jean Krepps (Ex work colleague, and Friends) on: Aug 01, 2024

  • Rita, I remember you and Arnold and your sweet girls from Big Trout Lake. Barry Boyle and I lived in a house close to you and the store, at the same time as Marg and Blaine. Condolences to you and Jennifer. Christine Martin - Posted by: Christine Martin (Friend ) on: Aug 01, 2024
