Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBRUCE RANDALL MCEWAN
With saddened hearts we announce the passing of Bruce McEwan. He will be sadly missed by his wife Cheryl; stepchildren, Tara (Cameron) and Matthew; and grandchildren, Paige and Everett. As well as brothers, Glen, Norm, Murray, Ken (Michelle), Don; sister Diane; Judy; and numerous nieces, nephews, sister and brother-in-laws, cousins, aunt, and friends.
Bruce was preceded by his parents, James and Evelyn; brothers, James Jr. and Ralph; and sister Joanne.
Bruce and Cheryl were together for 30 years and she was the love of his life. He loved his stepchildren and grandchildren dearly as if they were his very own.
He was a steamfitter by trade and worked at 17 Wing Air Force base for 35 years. He loved music and had a natural talent, learning the bass guitar at a young age. He played in a band called Stepchild in the late 70s and early 80s. It was his brain child to build a soundproof room in the basement of our parents' house for the band to practice in. Even though it was a soundproof room it still shook the house, and the neighbour’s as well.
Another lifelong passion of Bruce's was his 1969 GTO. He and his brothers, Glen and Ralph rebuilt the motor, and he loved to pamper it and proudly showed it off to everyone. It is a special memory for step-daughter Tara when she was allowed to take it to her graduation, and it was also used to drive Tara and Cameron on their wedding day. Tara and Matt loved Bruce and he was a great stepfather. Matt enjoyed Bruce’s company, playing crib with him, and special days where Bruce would decide to take us all out for a ride in the GTO or to car shows.
He fought his battle with cancer fearlessly, with strength and dignity right up to the very end, keeping his happy disposition and sense of humour. He passed peacefully with his family around him.
Thank you to all the staff at Victoria hospital for their care and compassion. As per his wishes he will be cremated and the family will plan a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Bruce, you were a great friend, loyal, honest and sincere. You were a very talented tradesman and always did your job without complaint. Having said that, you still gave me some grey hair. I have thought of you (half of the sisters) often and am so sorry I did not keep in touch better. You friend Lloyd Sorry I will not be able to attend your send off but I will be thinking you. - Posted by: Lloyd (Friend) on: Aug 14, 2024

Bruce was always good for a very good laugh. He and his brother Glen were the first people I met when I came to the heating and refrigeration shop at 17 Wing. Bruce reminded me of Trapper John from MASH. Never saw him angry, complaining about work, or saying a bad word about anyone. A true gentleman. Rest in peace Bruce. I will always remember you when I see the power plant. Paul - Posted by: Paul Robins (Co worker since 02) on: Aug 12, 2024
