EDWIN RENNIE DOUGLAS

The eldest child of Robert and Elsie Douglas, Ed was born in his grandmother's house in MacGregor, MB. Growing up on the family farm, Ed embraced the values of hard work and responsibility from a young age.

Ed was a life-long educator, happiest when he was sharing his knowledge of history, literature, or woodworking. He spent many years as a classroom teacher in the Transcona Springfield school division, primarily at Transcona Collegiate and Springfield Collegiate. His passion for teaching extended beyond any specific subject; he was dedicated to fostering a love for learning in his students and making lessons engaging and relevant. Even after retirement, Ed continued to teach, taking on term positions in God's Lake, God's Lake Narrows, Lac La Croix, and at the Festival du Voyageur. His love for history and the outdoors led him to become deeply involved in the Manitoba Living History Association, where his work as a woodworker and blacksmith brought history to life and showcased his commitment to preserving and sharing knowledge.

Ed was known for his strong work ethic, deep connection to the land, and readiness to help others - whether by lending equipment, offering support, explaining techniques, or providing a listening ear. He was well-respected by his colleagues and remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Elsie; brother-in-law Jack Anderson, and nephew Wade Anderson. He is survived by his wife Carol; children, Gillian (Dallas), Christopher (Tania), Bruce (Naomi), Brenna (Max), Lisa (Sheila), Paul (Lisa), and daughter-in-law Debbie; sister Katherine Anderson, and brother Lyall (Valerie) Douglas. He was also a loving grandfather, great-grandfather and a cherished uncle. Many others, such as the Perrier family, found a special place in his heart.

Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His laughter, stories, and unwavering kindness will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. As we remember him, let us also celebrate the remarkable life of a man who lived with passion, curiosity, and a deep love for others.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 18 at Ed and Carol's farm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Festival du Voyageur.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Losing a loved one is a life changing reality. There is pain, heart ache, and a feeling of a "void" that often takes a while to overcalm. But you must have faith! Let your new life encourage you to always look ahead, to give you courage, the ability to overcalm obsticales, a new direction and give you strength to move forwards. Give youself the love, strenght and patience you need as you move forward towards your brighter, happier tomorrow. Peace and comfort always. - Posted by: Mildred & Wilf Betker (Friend) on: Aug 11, 2024

  • I have very fond memories of being in Ed's geography classes in Grades 10 and 12 back in the 70s. He always made sure that he assigned us a chapter to read a day for homework. I enjoyed his classes. RIP - Posted by: Debbie McLeod (Former Student (TCI)) on: Aug 10, 2024
