After a long life, Eugenie "Genie" Johnston passed away on August 21, 2024 at the age of 94 years at Kin Place Personal Care Home, Oakbank, MB.

Genie was born in 1930, in the rural area of Morris, MB, the seventh of Anna and Ernest Hoffman’s 10 children. She married Tom Johnston in 1952 and lived in Manitoba all her life.

Genie is survived by two daughters: Marilyn Ruta (Marc) of Seven Sisters Falls, MB and Christine Johnston of Beausejour, MB. Also left to cherish Genie’s memory are three grandchildren, Kelli Gavaga (Jordan), Jodi Ruta (Clinton Orr) and Paul Ruta; and two great-grandchildren, Holden and Callum Gavaga. She was predeceased by her son Allan; daughter-in-law Lynda and grandson Dale in 1989. Also predeceasing her were her parents; sisters, Ethel, Esther, Mickey and Adeline; brothers, Ervin, David, Elvin, Earle and Manny.

A private family interment will take place at the Lac du Bonnet Cemetery at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Genie’s memory to a charity of your choice.
