Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN ELIZABETH BEENHAM
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Helen Beenham, on August 17, 2024.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Leslie Booth (Denny), and Mary-Beth Parrish (Dave); grandchildren, Mike Booth (Hilary), Dave Booth (Crystal), Dave Parrish, Lauren Parrish; great-grandchildren, Keelin and Tarryn Booth, Danica and Declan Booth. She was predeceased by Roy, her husband of 69 years, and by her parents, Mary and Duncan Robertson, her brother, Pat Robertson, and her grandson, Donny Booth.
Helen was born in Drumheller, Alberta on June 23, 1930. At the age of three she moved to Milton, Ontario and spent her childhood years there until moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba at age 15. She attended United College for grades 11 and 12, then two years in the Faculty of Home Economics at the University of Manitoba. Helen married Roy Beenham in Winnipeg on May 3, 1952. During their married life they lived in Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, Toronto, and in 2003 moved to Arbutus Ridge on Vancouver Island.
Helen and Roy appreciated the summer cottage lake lifestyle, first at West Hawk Lake, Manitoba and later at Treaty Island, Kenora, Ontario. For several years they spent winter weekends at the boxcar chalet they shared with friends near Mt. Agassiz. Wherever they spent time, they always enjoyed socializing and having a laugh with a wide circle of friends. Helen's warm personality drew people to her. She was very funny and silly and she didn't mind being teased. She was also really bright, adapting to technology and staying up to date on current affairs. She continued to make new friends of all ages throughout her entire life.
Helen was a confident, independent lady. As a mom, she taught her daughters to be the same. No helicopter parenting here, but she always supplied that unconditional love and support that made it safe for us to either succeed or fail. If life gave us some knocks, she'd help us back up. And her pride and joy in the achievements, small or large, of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids was heartwarming. She was fun to be with, smart and funny and interested in other people. She will be missed.
Private burial has taken place in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, a donation made to the charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated.

My family’s condolences on your loss, we had been keeping in touch to BC for some recent years. My mother has attained 93 years of age and will be celebrating her 94th this Sunday February 9th. I have recorded my mothers remembrances of her cousin Helen and would enjoy texting these snippets to Helen’s family. Sorry to hear of Helen's passing. My family was one of several that shared the box cars at Mt. Agassiz. Skiing no matter the weather. And Treaty Island at Lake of the Woods - she and Roy knew how to live. My best to the family. - Posted by: Paul Sweatman (Friend) on: Aug 31, 2024
