ELIZABETH HAMMOND

October 8, 1927 – September 8, 2024

Peacefully, with Larry and Jeanette patiently waiting for her, our beloved mother, grandmother, and grandma greatest, passed away on September 8.

Betty is predeceased by her husband, Larry; daughter Jeanette; parents Clifford and Martha Jones; brothers Gordon, Claude, and David; sister Joyce. Betty is survived by her children Laraine (Wayne), Grant (Cindy), and Glenn (Gail); grandchildren Chris (Cindy), Tammy (Ang), Lyndsy (Ryan), Mike (Kylie), Jessica (Andre), and Matt; great-grandchildren Taylor, Kingston, Chloe, Kole, Lily, and Grayson; sister Shirley (Jerry), brother Lionel (Joan), and many nieces and nephews.

Above all else Betty loved her family. She was the anchor in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who have many wonderful memories of her.

Betty was always happy and smiling and had a kind word for everyone. She was the person who was in line behind you at the store and you were drawn to have a conversation with her, even though you didn't know her.

Music was important to Betty. Her singing voice was unparalleled, and she and Jeanette would harmonize often and beautifully. She was also very artistic, painting with acrylics and water colours. Everyone in the family owns one or more of her paintings.

A memorial service will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Auntie Betty will surely be missed. She looked so much like my mom. I have many memories of her at Matlock with Uncle Larry, Grant, Glen, Bobby, Laraine and Jeanette. I will always cherish these memories for the rest of my life. - Posted by: Bill McCausland (Nephew) on: Sep 21, 2024

  • Oh, how I loved visiting my dear Auntie Betty. Her death means that my Dad, at age 94 is the last of the Hammond siblings and spouses. She laughed a lot and it allowed me to tease her, with her telling me "you're bad" with a smile. Our families were close, even when my immediate family wasn't living in Winnipeg for 11 years as I was growing up. Hence, it made those trips "back home" even more special as we'd visit with Auntie Betty, Uncle Larry, our cousins, Laraine, Grant, Glenn, Jeanette and Bobby along with other Hammond aunts, uncles and cousins. While they were alive, I loved visiting Uncle Larry & Auntie Betty. She was a lot of fun. This last June, on the advice of her son, Grant, I took her a McDonald's cheeseburger and a huge Sprite. She sure loved that. She's already missed. - Posted by: Stephen Hammond (Nephew) on: Sep 15, 2024

  • Grant, Cindy and family, I'm so very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: JOANNE FETTERMAN (Friend) on: Sep 14, 2024
