It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Rudolf Dyke. With his family at his side, Rudolf passed away peacefully into his eternal home on the morning of September 9, 2024.
Rudolf was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to immigrant parents on April 7, 1940. He was raised and went to U of M and subsequently obtained an MBA at U of T. His earlier years were spent managing a family wood products business that eventually was converted to a large industrial mall which he managed in his later years. In between, he spent two years teaching Business studies in Indiana at Goshen College. He moved with his wife to Vancouver Island in 2002 where they lived in Brentwood Bay near the beautiful Butchart Gardens.
He came to faith at a young age which formulated his life's values. He will be remembered for his love of nature and care for the environment, respecting God's creation. His greatest hobby was hiking in beautiful BC. He also spent hours gardening.
He was an academic at heart with an extensive library on all subjects. Any spare moment he was into his books reading, up until his final months of life. He enjoyed a good debate and great conversation. He also loved classical music and jazz.
His family was his pride and joy. He leaves to mourn his wife Marguerite (married 61 years), daughter Corinne, sons, Carl (Lenore) and Garth (Mary), his grandson Owen, and great-granddaughter Victoria.
Thank you to the loving, compassionate caregivers at Sidney All Care for their devotion to caring for Rudolf the past two years.
Rudolf will be missed by all who knew him.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer Foundation (Canada), Mennonite Central Committee Canada or Sidney chapter of Cycling without Age.
