MICHELE POIRIER

June 30, 1956 - September 19, 2024

It is with profound sorrow that we announce our beloved youngest sister has departed this earthly world on September 19. She was such a vibrant, strong and energetic person.

She grew up in Lorette, Manitoba, where she finished her high school and enrolled in science courses at the University of Manitoba. She moved to a farm in Stephenfield with her soul mate and was co-owner of a U-Pick fruit and vegetable farm they called Blue Apple Farms. She took many courses in water quality and water management systems. She worked as operator of a new water treatment plant in Pembina Valley. She enjoyed the challenges of producing high quality water for a living. Then for years her career was working as manager of several water quality plants in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. They eventually moved to the small community of Scotch Creek in North Shuswap where she retired.

She was so generous and kind. She loved cats and was devoted to her many cats throughout her lifetime. She leaves behind two beloved cats, Luna and Sonny who miss her now. She donated generously to the SPCA and other rescue organizations for cats and other animals.

She was happiest working in her garden. She didn’t like more than 10 minutes of housework but would spend a whole day working barefoot in the garden. She had great knowledge of herbal plants and trees. She had amazing productive gardens where ever she lived. She preserved all her fruits and vegetables for her winter’s supply. Her Happy Place was her garden. She had travelled to Australia, Europe and the Caribbean during her holiday times. She had retirement dreams of more travelling in Canada and internationally.

She enjoyed being outdoors and loved riding her bike, kayaking, camping and exploring the forests and backcountry. She loved her woodstove and spent hours collecting and maintaining her wood inventory. She always had a project on the go, whether building a pump house, setting up irrigation at her new property or doing her own renovations in her house. She also planted countless trees in her lifetime.

She left us too soon. She will be dearly missed and will be in our hearts forever.

  • Very saddened to learn of Mitch's passing. We were able to see and visit with her briefly over the years each time she came to Winnipeg for work and stayed with her sister, Jocelyne. She was a very calm and easy going, down to earth kind of person. We shared our conversations about gardens, veggies, our kids (cats) and places of travel. So very glad we came up to Scotch Creek just last June to visit her and spend the day. She showed us around and we enjoyed her stories of camping and canoeing Shushwap Lake area. Definitely gone too soon as she definitely should have had more time to enjoy her retirement years with her family and friends. We think of you and remember your smile and laugh very often Mitch! Rest in peace now and no pain or worries. Love from Wally, Gabie & Jay - Posted by: Gabrielle T (Friend) on: Oct 21, 2024

  • She was such a strong, vibrant and capable person. She loved cats and lived to garden. I will always remember the lively dominos games we played around the kitchen table. - Posted by: Ben Foster (Brother in law) on: Oct 17, 2024

  • I remember this beautiful young girl with long blonde hair running around bare feet on the farm. Whenever I was allowed to go and play with her older sister Joyce she was always with us. She was a very gentle, shy, soft spoken little girl at that time. We were able to reconnect for an afternoon coffee just last year as we discovered that we lived only 30 minutes from each other here in BC. What a wonderful time to reminisce on our wonderful childhood being neighbors and the joy of being raised on a farm. She will be missed, taken too soon. I so looked forward to seeing her again. - Posted by: Monique Gauthier (Childhood neighbor ) on: Oct 08, 2024

  • Mitch was a wonderful, happy person. Enjoying her work and homelife. Always willing to help in a project or add to a conversation. She never stopped learning and then applying that knowledge to help those around her. Mitch was one of the most dynamic individuals I have ever known. She will be missed. - Posted by: Robert I paulus (friend) on: Oct 07, 2024
