DAVID CASSELS

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Cassels on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the age of 66, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Family was very important to Dave, he loved and remembered those that predeceased him. He leaves behind his beloved life partner, Jill, along with his two children, four grandchildren, two brothers, his in-laws and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and great friends in Manitoba, B.C. and elsewhere.

Cottage life was a huge part of Dave’s life. Sitting on the dock, boating, skiing, snowmobiling, golfing, BBQing, watching CFL, playing cards, were a few of his favourite activities, always with good music and a rum and coke (made with Pepsi).

Dave was an entrepreneur at heart, in his younger years as the owner of Multi-Screening and later doing renovations. An avid volleyball player, he played in the WMVL for many years. Dave was a creative man and skilled builder. Never without a project, he was always willing to help family and friends. His work will be a lasting reminder of his generosity, work ethic and vision.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lester Beach cottage in the summer of 2025.

Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • Jill and family, I grew up in St. Boniface and chummed with the Cassels family’s on Cherries Street. In later years my company was serviced by multi screening for a few years. David was always a very sincere and generous person and readily gave us information to help make our presentations better. We looked forward to doing work for him in his annual horse shoe tournament which he held at the family cottage each year. Our condolences goes out to Jill and his family. R.i.p. • I was shocked and saddened to hear of Dave's passing. My condolences to to his entire family, friends and to Jill. I met Dave when we played volleyball against each other. He for Pierre Radisson and me for Murdoch MacKay. We instantly hit it off by engaging in banter through the net. That banter led to a lifelong friendship. I remember how happy Dave was about his move west. After his move, I am sad to say that we did not talk that often. Dave always had a way to lighten the mood and knew how to have fun. Again, my deepest sympathy to all who knew Dave. Wayne MacMullen - Posted by: Wayne MacMullen (Friend) on: Oct 28, 2024

  • We are deeply saddened at Dave’s passing and heartbroken for Jill, his children, grandchildren and family. We share grandchildren and so appreciated all of Dave’s love and time given to them, and to our son Kalem. Dave welcomed us into the family, opened up his cabin to have us stay there and kept the woodstove going and the outdoor shower running for our visits! The tiny house he built with Mel stands as a witness to his craftsmanship and dedication to helping Mel with her project. The cabin holds warm and happy memories of family times together and will continue to bring blessings and comfort. We are honoured and grateful for the privilege of having gotten to know Dave and be a part of his extended family. Our thoughts, hearts and prayers are with Jill and each one of his loved ones. - Posted by: Peter & Kimberly Hammermueller (Melanie’s in-laws ) on: Oct 16, 2024

  • Very sorry to hear that David has passed. My sympathy to all in his family. I went to high school with David, played volleyball with him, saw him through his screening business from garage to the downtown area, spent many a late night throughout our early years at the lakes, and lately shared our cancer experiences. He had a strong work ethic and "Long Tall Texan" will be missed but never forgotten. On this day of thanks, I thank Dave for his friendship and wish he rest in peace. - Posted by: Warren Cook (Friend) on: Oct 14, 2024

  • My condolences to all who were close to Dave. I met him as a soccer dad over 20 years ago in St. Vital and we struck a friendships right away. I spent beautiful times at his beautiful cottage at Lee River Manitoba, singing and playing guitar for his family and friends and he was always most encouraging. I think walk past his former residence daily, and I always thought of him and wondered what had become of him. Dave was a friend when I was dealing with a most difficult time in my life and he showed me understanding and empathy and I will never forget him. I very sadly got my answer this morning about what had become of him and I will always wish I could of seen him again. Rest in peace dear Dave. - Posted by: Michel Douchant (Friend and former neighbour ) on: Oct 12, 2024
