LINDA SUSAN COOTE

(nee MCAFEE)

March 21, 1951 - October 15, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Linda, who passed away peacefully at the age of 73, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. In her final days, Linda was surrounded and comforted by her sons, Rob and Jeff, daughter-in-law Ashley, and grandsons, Lochlan and Finlay.

Linda was born March 21, 1951, in Hull, Quebec. She went to nursing school in Ottawa and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1972. She met Bob who was an orderly at Ottawa Civic Hospital, and they were married on September 2, 1972.

Linda and Bob moved to Calgary in 1975, where they welcomed their first son, Robert Alan. They then moved to Winnipeg in 1977, where Linda began a long nursing career at Health Sciences Centre in the Emergency Department. Linda and Bob welcomed their second son, Jeffrey Daniel, in 1984.

Linda enjoyed needlework and decorated the house with many needlepoint pictures and knitted blankets. Friends and family with new babies could always expect a hat and booties as well as a blanket. She and Bob enjoyed their summers at Andy Lake in Lake of the Woods, Ontario, with their children, swimming, pulling the kids behind the boat, and fishing. Linda shared a bounty of tomatoes and cucumbers from her garden every year and always tossed in a jar of her famous salsa.

Once retired, Linda and Bob enjoyed travelling to warm destinations in the winter, and to Alberta to spend time with their grandchildren. Linda continued to travel with friends, with Cabo being a favourite destination, after Bob passed away in 2016. She was an avid Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan, rarely missing a game, and celebrating their Grey Cup wins in 2019 and 2021.

Linda is survived by her two sons, Rob (Ashley) of St. Albert, and Jeff of Winnipeg, grandsons, Lochlan and Finlay of St. Albert, sister Barbara of Winnipeg, sister-in-law Elaine of Selkirk, and many nieces and nephews.

Linda was predeceased by her husband and best friend Bob, parents, Mary (Evelyn) and Ernest, and brother Robert (Bob).

According to Linda’s wishes there will be no formal service. A private gathering of family will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Siloam Mission in Winnipeg.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Sorry Rob and family…reading back I meant to say when Linda moved to Edmonton, not Calgary!…she was always very proud of you working for the Oilers and had a hard time choosing between the Jets or Oilers! - Posted by: Kim (Hairstylist ) on: Jan 08, 2025

  • Dear Rob, Ashley, Lochlan, Finley and Jeff, I did your mom’s hair for many years, when she moved to Calgary we both shed tears. I just found out she passed in October and I was shocked and so sad. Selling her house and moving was so stressful but I know she was looking forward to a new start in Calgary with family close by. I enjoyed our visits so much, she always talked of you and told me what the grandboys were up to, she was a loyal and lovely lady. I am so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Kim (Hairstylist ) on: Jan 08, 2025

  • My deepest sympathies to Linda’s family. I worked with Linda at HSC. She was dedicated to her profession and hard-working. May peace be with her and with all her family. - Posted by: Trish Bergal (Nursing Colleague) on: Oct 27, 2024
