ISABEL VAN HUMBECK

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Isabel Van Humbeck on November 7, 2024.

Born September 1, 1942, to Fred and Elise Van Humbeck, Isabel was the youngest of 10 children. She had a happy and humble childhood, raised on a farm in Laurier, MB, where she shared close bonds with all of her brothers and sisters.

A brilliant mind and lifelong learner, Isabel attended Teacher's college and taught for several years, later attaining a Bachelor of Science degree and working as a Computer Programmer and Analyst. Isabel's life was unconventional by design. A free spirit, she lived her life like the wind, touching many, yet never being contained. She was a creative adventurer and embarked on many travels around the world. Her family enjoyed being regaled by her exciting stories upon her return. In her later years Isabel settled in the heart of Toronto, where she embraced the bustling city and continued her education at the University of Toronto. She was lover of theatre and a tireless proponent for social justice, always willing to advocate for a cause she believed in. Isabel spent her last 20 years in the vibrant neighbourhood of Seaton Village near Dupont and Bathurst. She was active in her close-knit community which she cherished and where she made many friends. Her sweet smile and kind heart will be missed by those whose lives she touched.

Isabel was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Elise (Robert) Van Humbeck, sisters, Sally (Pat Daggitt), Elaine (Art Doucette), Marie (Lionel Smith), brothers, Aime (Doreen Hopfner), Ray, and Frank. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Adrienne (Martin Weiten), brothers, Gilbert (Ann Ullenboom) and Ed (Terry Vincent), sisters-in-law, Sue (Chapman), Lucille (Theoret), many nieces, nephews and friends.
