I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bob. He was truly a wonderful neighbor and brought kindness, warmth and joy to our community. He was always there to lend a helping hand, He named me the "Gatekeeper" of Royal Salinger. Bob's humor was the best. He was so proud of his granddaughters - Haley - you were the apple of his eye. Bob was missed when he sold his home and move into assistant living. He still was around the area weekly - every time I saw him - he would stop and we would catch up. Last time was a few weeks ago - he stopped and said "Uber Bob Here". I will truly miss you and your humor. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Heather Zajac (neighbor) on: Nov 24, 2024

I met Bob when my Mom moved to the fourth floor of Dakota House. I live in Saskatoon but was lucky to spend time with Bob at the puzzle table. We shared stories and laughter. I was lucky enough to share the odd glass of wine with Bob as well. I treasure those chats and memories. I always looked forward to seeing Bob when I came to Winnipeg. It won’t be the same without him. Sending hugs. JJ - Posted by: Janice Jackson (Acquaintance ) on: Nov 23, 2024

This message of condolences is for Bob's sons and his grand-daughter, who I've never met in person, but who I feel that I know, because of all the wonderful stories that Bob shared when we were at daily Early Bird Swim sessions at Bonivital Pool. Your father and grandfather was extremely proud of you and of your accomplishments. I imagine that all of you share his wry sense of humor. I know that I delighted in his intractable yet comical views of the ways of the world! You probably don't know this, but Bob always wanted to swim in "the curb lane" of the deep pool, the one that had the cement steps leading into it. However, I always arrived at the pool and least forty minutes earlier than Bob, so I would take that lane "to reserve it" for him and when he finally showed up, I would automatically move one lane over. (Age before beauty--Bob had 25+ years over me and I've always respected my elders). One day, the floating rope divider that defined the lanes was missing, enlarging the area of the first lane. Bob and I were swimming along when four buff young men, tattooed all over, slid into the pool, inserting themselves in the area between Bob and me, lap swimming quickly, one behind the other, somersaulting at each end of the pool--Navy Seals! (They were actually firefighters preparing for their annual physicals). Suddenly, in the shallow end of the pool, Bob burst out of the water like a sea monster and he loudly sputtered to me, "What the heck! Where did these guys come from? You can't just show up and expect to have a lane; the lanes are for The Regulars!" We just looked at each other and then we had a good chuckle! This is just one wonderful memory that I have. I loved Bob and really missed seeing him when he stopped being "A Regular" in our Early Bird Swim community. Bob was guaranteed to bring out the chuckles, no matter the situation. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Darlene Karalash (Friend) on: Nov 16, 2024

Bob was a good friend of mine for many years. We first met at BoniVital swimming pool and continued our friendship by sharing support on the death of Bob’s wife Elaine and my wife Arlene. We enjoyed our regular lunches at Tang Dynasty and relaxing moments on my back patio. Bob loved dim sum and eating out with his grand daughters Hailey and Malinda, and was thrilled when grandson George was born. Bob lived his working life at BMO. Rest in peace my friend! - Posted by: Trevor Hayden (Friend) on: Nov 16, 2024
