Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER SOKOLOWSKI
Peacefully, on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Grace Hospital, Walter passed away at the age of 91.
He will be loved and remembered forever by his three children: daughters, Jane and Tania, son Ken (Cindy), his grandchildren, Tatiana (Fathi), Alicia, Katya (Sean), Lane (Mac), Mikal (Jamie), Evan, and one great-grandchild Lennon. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Doreen and Virginia, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife Vicki, grandson Matthew, parents, Alexander and Taciana, his brothers, John, William, and Steve and his many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Walter was born on March 2, 1933, as the youngest child of the family. He grew up in the North End of Winnipeg, met his wife Vicki, who he was married to for 60 years. He graduated from university as a Chartered Accountant. He then worked at Manitoba Pool Elevators until 1996 retiring from the position of Chief Financial Officer.
Walter will be remembered for his generous, hard working, and kind spirit both in his career and with his family and friends. We can picture him as he barbecued steaks in the backyard, smoking his cigar, or telling a funny story. We won’t forget how he would send cards at Christmas time. His card was always the first to arrive before anyone else. These memories will always be cherished.
The family would like to thank home care, the staff and his friends at Concordia Village, CancerCare Manitoba, and Grace Hospital. A special thank you to all the friends and family who would call or visit Walter often.
At Walter’s request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and his ashes have been interred with his beloved wife Vicki.

I just learned of Walter's death, and I express my sincere condolences to Walter's family for this great loss. I studied and worked with Walter at Millar, McDonald, the firm of CA's where our careers commenced. Walter is one of the kindest, most genuine persons I have ever known, and I am proud to have had that privilege. Cherish the memories of your father. - Posted by: Dean Duggan (Friend) on: Dec 05, 2024

My sincere condolences to the Sokolowski family. I have very fond memories working with Walter at Manitoba Pool. Always a very kind and sincere person who was easy to talk with. From a work perspective, Walter had this unique ability to explain in simple terms, what was sometimes complex accounting and finance matters. May your memories of him ease the loss you are feeling. Mr. and Mrs. Sokolowski were our neighbors. They were wonderful. Mr. Sokolowski was always joking with everyone and had a great sense of humor. The yard was kept meticulous. The love he had for Mrs. Sokolowski and his family was very evident. When he moved into Concordia Place he was a ray of sunshine to everyone. He was loved by everyone. We teased him that he was the greeter sitting at the entranceway of Building 3. He will be missed! He was a first class gentleman.❤️ - Posted by: Carolyn Kwiatek (Neighbour) on: Nov 23, 2024

Condolences from the Chrustie family - sister sharing comment too. Mr. Sokowloski was a neighbor as I was one of Kens (his son) best friend. Regular fun times, famous for his steak bbq - sense of humor - kind supportive relationship with his neighbors and kids. A huge supporter of kids and hockey including his passion I recall - Ken and his sports involvement including hockey. A true gem of a gentleman - provided significant supporter and kindness to both my parents before they passed. My condolences to the family and on behalf of my family 🙏💐 - Calvin and Chrustie’s. - Posted by: Calvin Chrustie (Family Friend) on: Nov 23, 2024
