ADELINE LAURA SULATYSKI PRESSEY

1933 - 2024

Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our mother, Adeline Pressey, on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the age of 91.

Adeline was married to the love of her life, Orest Pressey, for 57 years. She was the mother of four, Richard, Susan, Jonathan (Ala) and Nancy; Baba to Kelley, Vanessa and Emily; great-Baba to Jenna and Jackson.

Adeline was born in the Kosiw district, near Dauphin, the youngest child of Stephan and Dora Sulatyski.

Adeline’s accomplishments were numerous and varied. She was a civic minded person and a great volunteer for the community. She was loved and appreciated by many and a joy to all who knew her.

We want to thank all members of the staff at Portage Hospital for their kindness and professionalism.

Our Mom was the light of our family and will continue to shine in our hearts forever.

Vichnaya Pamyat

As per Adeline’s wishes, a service will be held in Dauphin in the spring.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • A decade ago I contacted Adelaine on behalf of a family in Ukraine. They were looking for descendants of the Sulatyski families who came to Canada in the early 1900's. She and I had several conversations but never did get a chance to meet in person. My grandmother also came from Ukraine, from Seredniy Bereziv, in 1904. She was a Malkowich, her mother was Eudokia Sulatyska. She married another Ukrainian in Canada. Her married name was Pearl Kernatz. Adelaine told me that Pearl was the only person in Winnipeg that her family from Dauphin knew, She stayed for a few days at Pearl's home on Magnus in 1952 when she moved to Winnipeg for school. It was apparent that she and her husband had a deep and continuing supportive relationship with Ukrainians. I regret not meeting her. My condolences to her family and friends. • My parents, Ben and Nadia Hanuschak, are long time friends of your family. Dad and Orest went to law school together. Mom and Adeline kept in phone contact from time to time. Mom treasured the calls to and from Adeline especially since Orest's passing. The contact decreased as mom's health deteriorated and I think Adeline's as well. Visits were planned on our side but they never came to fruition as one thing or another got in the way. It finally became to difficult for me to get mom out there for a visit. Despite mom's failing memory she often wondered how "Adeline" was. Suffice it to say that their friendship with mom and dad was not forgotten. Dad has been in long term care for the last 6plus years and is unaware of his surroundings. So on behalf of them both, I extend our heartfelt condolences to you and yours at this time. Take care. • My condolences to the family. I met Nancy at U of W student residence about 40-ish years ago. When I saw the obituary, I thought of her. (Assuming this is the same one...) If so, or if not, may the Lord bring your mother into His Eternal presence, and Our Lady hold you all close!
