JUNE CAMERON
Born in 1926, June left this world on November 29, 2024, with the loving company of her nieces, Karen and Audrey, sister Lynda and her husband Dan, and her dear friend Edith.
June grew up in East Kildonan, Winnipeg. After graduating from high school, she worked in offices downtown. June had a keen interest in fashion design and sketched designs of dresses and suits. Our mother, Signe Lange, who was a talented seamstress, could make the outfits from the sketches. As a result, June was always well dressed, and much enjoyed working in an office downtown.
However, with the tragic death of her older sister Audrey after the birth of twins, Geoffrey and Lynda, June left work to help her mother care for two newborns, and her younger siblings, Lynda and Jack. Just a few months later, her sister Louise gave birth to a baby boy, Lang. That summer, June and Louise went to a summer cottage at Laclu with three small babies, and three-year-old Lynda. There was no running water, and no washer and dryer. They took turns washing clothes and cloth diapers, hanging them up in the fresh air. June said “You could just take a pail and scoop water out of the lake”; and also “it was safe for drinking back then”. With all that, June said, “It was one of the best summers of my life.”
After her marriage to Cam, June moved just down Melbourne Avenue from the family home to her own house. She went to work at St. Alphonses Credit Union, where she simply walked to work from home. At the Credit Union, June rose to become Branch Manager, addressed at work as “JC”, becoming very busy with meetings, etc.
June was always a good friend to younger members of the family and was especially close to nieces Karen and Audrey. Audrey provided a lot of support for June through calls, cards, and visits, and flew from Toronto to be with June during her last days. Karen was a devoted visitor and caregiver to her Aunt June during the last six years, and especially during the time June lived at Vista Park Lodge.
June is survived by her daughter Jane (Claude), her sister Lynda (Dan), nieces, Karen (Mark) and Audrey (Nathan) as well as nieces and nephews, Paul and Carrie, Chris and Lang, John and Sandra, John and Edith, Eric and Meaghan, and Kate, Stephen, and David Robert. June was predeceased by her parents, Signe and Fred Lange, and siblings, Audrey, Louise, and Jack.
We wish to thank the staff at Vista Park Lodge for their good care and great Kindness.
We will miss Aunt June, but the angels were waiting to start the meeting.
