SUSAN OLSON
Susan Olson passed away peacefully at home at the age of 76, surrounded by her family and her beloved dog, Hachi, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. True to her nature, she left this world on her own terms, with grace, resilience, and humour.
Susan was the definition of grit and determination. She was a force who balanced the chaos of raising two children while successfully running several small businesses throughout Winnipeg and even from her garage. She was proof that persistence, and just the right amount of stubbornness, can conquer nearly anything. Her bark, as her friends and family lovingly recall, was far worse than her bite, and her loyalty to those she cared for was unwavering.
A lover of life’s simple pleasures, Susan was happiest digging in her garden, where she transformed soil into blooms, or at the family cottage on the Winnipeg River, where she spent many idyllic summers basking in the serenity of nature.
For the past six years, Susan traded Winnipeg winters for the Texas sunshine. There, she found love and community among a group of like-minded adventurers who appreciated her quick wit, and penchant for telling it like it is.
Susan’s legacy lives on in her loving partner George, her children Mark (Julijana) and Jessica, her grandchildren, Jesse and Sonny, and her cherished friends in Canada and the U.S. Predeceased by her husband of 30 years, John; her mother Mary; and brothers, Bob and Allan; Susan wouldn’t want you to mourn her. Instead, she’d insist you pour a glass, share a hearty laugh, and get back to living.
In Susan’s memory, her family invites you to honour her spirit by donating to the Winnipeg Humane Society or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. A celebration of her life will take place this summer in her garden when it’s in full bloom, just as she would have wished.
