On January 5, our beloved mother and grandmother slipped away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
She leaves to mourn her daughters, Lorelei (Mark) and Barbara (Gordon), granddaughters, Aimée and Elena, the apples of her eye, and her brother and sister, Henri (Laurette) and Marguerite, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Angéline and her sisters, Anita, Monique, Marie-Ange and Georgette.
Odile grew up in Saint-Claude, MB, and moved to Winnipeg to attend teacher's college. She enjoyed a long career in education, spending her first years teaching in rural and Northern Manitoba before settling in at Ecole Sacré-Coeur in Winnipeg. She was part of Manitoba's pioneering team of educators in French immersion and helped update the Grade 2 provincial mathematics curriculum in the 1990s. Madame Bourrier touched the lives of many children during her career.
An avid gardener, Odile filled her backyard with vegetables, herbs and flowers. She also enjoyed knitting and crochet. After retirement, she volunteered, notably at Age & Opportunity and at tax clinics. She remained a Blue Jays fan 'til the end.
We thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre for their compassion and for making Odile's last days comfortable.
Memorial donations may be made in Odile's name to the Winnipeg School Division's Children's Heritage Endowment Fund or Nature Manitoba. We ask all who knew Odile to spread some kindness and smiles, as she did.
A Celebration of Odile's life will be held at Desjardins Funeral Home.
