MONICA MARIE LAWSON

1947 - 2025

In loving memory of our mother, and grandmother who passed away peacefully at the age of 77.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son Andrew (Melissa) and two grandchildren, Brody and Morgan.

She also leaves her brother Emile (Janet), sisters, Jeanette, Donna, Pauline (Doug), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Paul and Erma Longpre, and sisters, Denise and Karla.

Monica was born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and lived in Swift Current, Calgary, and Saskatoon before moving to Manitoba and settling in Winnipeg in 1972. She worked for Investor's Group, The Bay and the University of Manitoba where she stayed for 27 years. She enjoyed her positions in Housing and Student Life working at the student residences and made numerous lifelong friends. In retirement she became a floral designer and worked at Top Hat Florist for 12 and a half years.

She liked her vegetable garden and loved her flower garden. She enjoyed travelling with her sister and made two trips to the East Coast. She was forced to halt the travel after a cancer diagnosis in 2020. She cherished her time with her grandsons and went to their many football and hockey games.

There will be a Celebration of Life held on the second floor of the Dakota Community Centre, 1188 Dakota Street in Winnipeg, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on January 14. The family welcomes everyone to join us to remember Monica and celebrate her life.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Monica was a wonderful lady! We enjoyed having her at Granite Lake and she was always so proud of her grandsons. Andrew and family, we are so sorry for your loss. I will miss her emails every winter on how she was watching Matt curling and giving me updates on you all. - Posted by: Wendi Russell (Lake Friend) on: Jan 14, 2025

  • Sending heartfelt sympathy to Andrew, Melissa, Brody, and Morgan. Monica's feisty spirit will live on in our memories and hearts. We appreciated her friendship and generosity. We especially appreciated her determination, tenacity, and energy as she stood up for students’ rights while working at the University's residences. It is no surprise to read how much she loved her garden and flower beds; it would be difficult to take the prairie out of someone who spent a lifetime in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. We hope the good memories shared with those you love soon begin to eclipse the pain of grieving. Wishing you and your family comfort and consolation, strength and peace. - Posted by: Laurel & Frank (friends) on: Jan 14, 2025
