"Fly me to the moon. Let me play among the stars" - Frank Sinatra
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle on December 30, 2024.
Barry was predeceased by his loving wife Darlene in 2020, parents, Max and Anne Schmidt, sister and brother-in-law, Judith and Denis Meier, and his best friend Richard Livingston.
He will be missed dearly by his daughters, Laurel Whittington (Art), and Lisa Lane (Barry), sister Susan Instance (Dave), his four beautiful grandchildren, Tanner Lane, Carly Lane, Alex Whittington and Alyssa Whittington, as well as nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends that meant so much to him.
In accordance with Barry’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. A small and intimate interment ceremony will take place in Gimli in the spring or summer - where his immediate family and close friends will lay him and his beautiful bride Darlene to rest - together - forever.

Worked with Darlene many years at the Manitoba Real Estate Association where she was Brian Collie’s trusted keeper of the gate. Got to know Barry through some of the staff get togethers held over the years. He was such a gentleman as well as a gentle man. Darlene and Barry would call me when they knew of someone thinking of selling a unit in Lions Court and also pass on my name to the prospective sellers. I sold a number of suites in the complex over the years with the Schmidt’s help. For that I was very grateful and thankful. When my daughter passed away from cancer as a teenager, Darlene and Barry insisted I come to their suite to pick up some casseroles she had made for our family. They are now united again, to spend eternity together. Amazing people and the world is poorer without them. - Posted by: Cliff King (Friend) on: Feb 18, 2025
