Marilyn Adams (nee Peary), aged 82, passed away peacefully the afternoon of Monday, December 16th at Foothills Medical Center, Calgary, AB.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Rob (Cyndi) and Lynne (Greg), and her five grandchildren, Josh, Connor, Noah, Ben and Jordan. She is also survived by nieces, Karen Franklin and Sandy O'Rourke who were like daughters to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Barry and her sister Joy.
Marilyn was born January 22, 1942, in Winnipeg, MB. She grew up in the Weston neighborhood and attended Daniel Macintyre High School. She worked briefly as a bank teller until she met her husband Barry and started a family, settling in Westwood. She was a devoted mother who loved to gather with friends and family.
Marilyn was an avid golfer who spent the better part of three decades playing with friends and family at St. Charles Country Club. She was also an accomplished five-pin bowler and competed regularly in both provincial and national competitions. She led team Manitoba to two silver medals in the Canadian Championships in 1982 and again in 1988. It was through bowling that Marilyn and Barry met many lifelong friends, most of whom could be found at the Adams' household on Christmas Eve.
Marilyn's Christmas Eve feast was legendary for the overabundance of food and drink and most years over one hundred people would drop by, many lasting until the wee hours of the morning. It was tradition to awaken after two hours sleep, open presents with the kids, and then go for a nap.
We want to thank the staff at Aspira Britannia for their caring and kindness in making Marilyn truly happy despite her Dementia.
A private memorial will be held in spring when Marilyn's ashes will be laid to rest with her husband Barry.
Contributions in memory of Marilyn can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada at alzheimer.ca

Sandy and I met Marilyn when we were about about 5 and 6 years old. Uncle Bar lived with us and was like a big brother so when he and Marilyn met and married we weren't too happy that he was leaving us. But fortunately that didn't last long and soon she was part of the family and became Mar to us. We were thrilled when Uncle Bar and Mar invited Sandy and I to be flower girls in their wedding party. Sandy and I loved going to visit their apartment where Mar would make us our favorite treat...cheese dooeys. Her name for a hamburger bun with cheese and bacon grilled in the oven until they bubbled. To us it was a real treat. Christmas Eves were very special and many a one we enjoyed with all their friends and family. The tradition went on for so many years that even my children thought of it as part of their Christmas Eve tradition. My heart is filled with years of special memories. Mar you will be missed. Our sincere and heartfelt thoughts go out to Robbie and Lynn and their families. Donna (Dodo) - Posted by: Donna Martin (Niece) on: Jan 18, 2025
