With broken hearts, we sadly announce the sudden passing of our beloved Dad, Charlie. Pops went peacefully at his home on January 18, 2025.
He leaves to mourn, his wife of 23 years, Doreen, his children, Wendy (Ed), Tracey (Tom), Dan (Sue) and his cherished grandchildren, Joey (Karen), Sam (Kim), Wiley (Marijke), Dylan (Sydney), Saxon (Mariel) and granddaughter Sienna.
Dad also leaves to mourn, his surviving sisters, Jessie, Marie and Dianne and his extended family, Bev, Peter, Blaine, Reine, Harley and Cash.
Charlie was born in Winnipeg on February 9, 1940, and was raised in St. James growing up on Woodlawn Street. He retired as the captain of Station #20 with the Winnipeg Fire Department in June 2000. Charlie loved golf and hockey. He was a member at Bel Acres for many years and then moved to Glendale to play in his senior years. He also enjoyed playing golf throughout Manitoba with the Happy Hackers.
Charlie was a HUGE Jets and Bomber fan, never missing a game.
Charlie was a very humble man who never asked for anything. His support for his children was always there, and we all knew it. His sideways smile and one-liners will forever be missed, as well as the strong hugs with those big shoulders.
Rest in Peace Pops. We hope you have the best Jets seats ever!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Firefighters Burn Fund, any volunteer Fire Department, or a charity of your choice.
Per Charlie's request, no service will be held. Arrangements have been made with Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent through their website.

Thanks for the times in the hall and at the fires. Chuck was a diamond. I enjoyed the time with him. When he saw my 1973 Oldsmobile he said, "now that's an apartment". Fun man to cross shift with. - Posted by: Michael Sparks (Colleague) on: Feb 19, 2025

I was so sorry to read of Charlie's passing. My sincere condolences to all the family. Being a retired firefighter as well I spoke with Charlie many times while on the job. I never had the opportunity to play golf with him as we both played at different clubs except for one time. During the 1997 Mens Senior Championship at Larters. I really enjoyed playing with him. In the true spirit of the game and as competitive as he was he showed support and sportsmanship throughout. My one regret is that we never had the chance to play together again. Played golf with Charlie at Bel Acres and then at Glendale. Took our yearly golf trip to Falcon Lake. It was a great privilege to get to know and spend time with Charlie. My deepest condolences, he will be dearly missed on the links but his memory will live on. Deepest Regards Don Mclean. - Posted by: Don Mclean (Friend from Glendale) on: Feb 01, 2025

Met Charlie while playing hockey at KB arena, and he played a solid game, and he always enjoyed the post game celebrations following the game. Also, living across the street from the arena, Charlie continued to enjoy some of the post game action, too, following his playing days. Charlie, Rest in Peace, and 'may you enjoy clear skies and following winds for the future'. Tom Whitburn - Posted by: Tom Whitburn (Friend.) on: Feb 01, 2025
