Carol Raizen passed away peacefully at age 85 on January 29, 2025, at the Simkin Centre.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, she’s predeceased by husband Morris and brother Arthur. Carol will be deeply missed by her brother Howard, son Steve, daughter-in-law Tanis, grandchildren, Eliza, Jack, daughter Brenley, son-in-law Michael, grandchildren, Rebeccah and Nisa, sister-in-law Paulette, and many friends and family.
She married Morris in 1958. They were together for an incredible 62 years until Morris passed away in 2020. After her kids were in school, Carol went to university and got her Bachelor of Education. She spent many years working in the Jewish school system. While Carol was teaching, she kept up her education part-time and earned a Master’s degree. She was a very organized and capable person and easily planned large and small parties and events.
Together, Carol and Morris had a full social life enjoying theatre, concerts, and dinner parties with friends. They spent almost 20 years at their cottage at Falcon Lake, where Carol loved the sun, card games, puzzles, and other activities. One of her favourite things about the summer at the lake was reading three to four books a week.
Carol was a passionate Bridge player. Committed to playing four to six days a week with Morris, she was still playing one to two times a week as recently as September 2024.
Once retired Carol and Morris were lucky enough to spend a few months every winter in Palm Springs for 20 years. There they enjoyed time with friends and family. A couple of years after her husband passed, Carol moved to the Portsmouth assisted living where she made new friends, attended activities, and kept playing bridge with her sister-in-law, Paulette.
Family was very important to Carol and Morris. They were always there to support extended family by attending important celebrations. Carol hosted family events until she was in her late 70s and always kept cards around to mark birthdays, anniversaries, and milestones.
Carol’s funeral will be held at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, 230 Armstrong Ave (J-3-6) on Sunday, February 2 at 12:00 p.m. Shiva will be held 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 125 Portsmouth Blvd.
Donations in her name to Parkinson Canada or The Movement Centre of Manitoba are welcome.

Carol was my first cousin. Her mother was my aunt Ida, her father my uncle. Bill Migie part of my childhood took place at their home on Mcadam street near the Talmud Torah. Tho they belonged to the Rosh Pina. Carol’s brother Arthur was an intellectual and her brother Howard still is - a trait we shared.
